Eight of us, plus four of the patrol guards ran for thirty minutes straight towards the pack house. One mile out, we stopped, shifted, dressed and convened. One mile was a safer distance where we were definitely sure we wouldn’t be heard or sniffed from the pack house.
“Alan, Marcus, run straight back to the pack house but do not enter. See if you can detect Beta Arthur from outside. Mind link me and then we’ll discuss further.” Trevor ordered.
Nodding, Alan and Marcus quickly stripped, shifted and took off. It should take them less than five minutes to arrive. The thirty minute run had been exhilarating and carefree but now that we’re only a mile out and probably minutes before the showdown, my heart was pumping like crazy.
“Sir David.. You’re very fit for a shifter your age.” Nate joked, trying to lighten the tense situation.
“Council members age differently. We keep our youthful strength until the day we die, unlike normal shifters whose strength wanes with age.” Sir David replied nonchalantly.
Nate’s jaw drop in surprise. “Really?”
“No, Mr. Mitchell, I was just kidding. I’ll have you know that I am almost at my limit. If there are more running to be done, I might have to sit out and just take a leisurely walk to meet up with you all.” Sir David smiled.
I snort involuntarily at both their attempts to joke at a time like this.
“Shit!! He’s not there!” Trevor cursed, jolting us back into the serious business at hand.
“What?! Where is he?” I frown, feeling panic rising from the pit of my stomach.
“He can’t have left the pack lands, can he?” Matt speaks up for the first time tonight.
“Alpha Trevor, get them to check if his car’s still there.” Carl suggests.
Two minutes later, the reply came. His car was still there so he couldn’t have gone far. Deciding we didn’t have to stay away now, we all run towards the pack house.
“Alpha Trevor, we tracked his scent going towards the west. It’s fresh… Couldn’t be more than an hour ago.” Marcus reports to Trevor the moment we arrive at the pack house and shift.
“We may need more people.” I say, turning towards Trevor.
At Trevor’s orders, Alan and Marcus went to wake their ten best fighters while the other two patrol guards went ahead to scout where Arthur Ravensdale snuck off to.
Once everyone was rounded up and briefed, we took off into a harried sprint towards Arthur Ravensdale.
Thirty minutes later, we all slowed to a gallop when we see the two patrol guards waiting for us up ahead, almost at the end of the western border.
The problem with having two packs work together is we couldn’t communicate with each other while in wolf form so we had to keep shifting back and forth to talk, discuss and then proceed.
Pulling on my boxers for the zillionth time tonight, I turn to face the two patrol guards.
“See the structure due west? I think that’s where he is. We hadn’t dared to go closer because he could hear us. So we just waited till you got here. What do we do now, Alpha Trevor?” Patrol guard 1 asked.
“What’s that structure?” I cut in before Trevor could respond. It’s important we know what lies within to know how to respond.
“It’s an old cottage which serves as the entrance to an abandoned underground dungeon.” Patrol guard 2 says.
