Without a word, I pick Arianna up, wound her legs around my torso and ran as quickly as I could into the pack house and up to our room. I yell for Nate and Blake in the process, needing them to help guard Arianna.

Reaching our room, I deposit Arianna on the bed, looking as confused as ever. I was about to yell for Nate and Blake again when I realized that they were both away. I cursed under my breath. Why the hell did we agree to be apart?!

Running my hands through my hair, I pace the room, mentally screening through profiles of pack members for people I can trust to guard Arianna.

“Babe, what’s wrong? Tell me, please. You’re scaring me” Arianna pleads, reaching for me, halting me mid pace.

I hesitate for a moment, not wanting her to worry but not wanting her to be blissfully unaware either. I find that people are more careful when you warn them of impending danger. And I need her to be careful.

“The patrol guards found ONE unidentified wolf scent two miles inside the inner Southern border.” I emphasize on ONE and hope that Arianna doesn’t go into panic attack mode.  Wishful thinking. Of course she tenses immediately, eyes roaming around fearfully.

Shit! I hate to see her in distress.

“ I…I… They might be rogues just passing through.. We’ll know more when they all get back. Dad’s gone with some of the other fighter wolves to check it out.” I say, trying to put her mind at ease.

He’s coming for me.” Arianna trembles.

I shake my head fiercely, hugging her tightly to my chest “Baby, no… Nobody’s coming for you. He doesn’t know where you are. Nobody does… Trust me, please.”

I know I technically lied. I don’t know for sure if ‘he’ is after her or not. I can’t even guarantee that ‘he’ doesn’t know where she is. I’m banking on the hope that I’ve taken her out of Britain and ‘he’ wouldn’t expect that. But that’s an assumption at best.

I know it’s more crucial now than ever to know who’s been holding her captive for the last five years and ascertain if he’s still after her. I need her to talk but I know it’s useless if she’s stressed and tense.

I sit with Arianna on my lap in the sitting room with the rest of the pack members. I feel better knowing that Arianna’s surrounded by more wolves than just me since Nate and Blake aren’t here.

It also helps that there are twenty fighter wolves circling the pack house outside. Ten are with my dad investigating. The balance thirty were running tight patrols round our inner borders.

We have 800 square miles of pack lands but only 300 square miles which we patrol daily. Once a month we do a sweep of the entire 800 square miles of private land we own. But that’s only as a precaution and checking up that no rogues set up homes although we do allow them to pass through our outer borders as long as they were just passing through.

I stroke Arianna’s hair as I coo softly into her ear, needing her to calm down. After one hour, she finally falls asleep, head on my chest. I look down at her angelic face, wondering why someone would want to take her just to torture her. It doesn’t make sense.

Two minutes later, I hear my dad and the fighters return. Straightening up as best as I can without jolting Arianna awake, I wait for my dad to inform every one of the situation.

“We’ve tracked the scent. There’s only one lone wolf. We believe he’s just passing through and did not realize he had breached our inner borders. He exited five miles from his entry point. It should be nothing but we’ve doubled the patrol guards for tonight and the rest of the week. We’ll monitor the situation to see if it’s a threat. I’ll update all of you each night before dinner.” My dad announces before curtly nodding and leaving into his office with Beta Dean and Gamma Mark.
