Dropping her gaze, Kali Omehia sighs deeply. “I only saw a vision and by the urgency of the feeling I felt, I just knew we have to be here. All Twelve of us, standing outside in the moonlight with Miss Ravensdale with us, forming a circle.”
“That’s it?” Nate pipes up.
“It’s like seeing a picture, not a movie reel.” Kali Omehia scoffs, glaring at Nate from the corner of her eyes.
“Besides, I’ve never seen anything more important. For the past four hundred years, the gifts of the Twelve have been sorely underutilized. The gift of seeing is solely to find the prophesized red wolf but even then, I only saw a vision of Miss Ravensdale once, when she first shifted into her red wolf. If she had shifted more, I would have seen more and maybe we would have found her sooner. I’m so sorry, Miss Ravensdale.” Kali’s voice softens as she turns towards Arianna, a sad and apologetic look in her eyes.
Caught off guard, Arianna barely manages to mumble something to brush off Kali’s self-imposed guilt.
“What do you mean ‘solely to find the prophesized red wolf’? Can’t you see anything else??” I ask, finding this rather incredulous and ridiculous.
“Ahh… I’m sorry. English is not my first language so sometimes I don’t explain things as well as I intend. Of course I see other things, but for the last three hundred years, all the seers in the Twelve have focused our energies to finding the red wolf that we often ignore other signs or visions. Sometimes we see danger, sometimes we see momentous occasions, but mostly we ignore them if it doesn’t harm the general public.” Kali explains, although it doesn’t really clarify much.
“Why do you ignore the danger warnings?” Beta Dean questions, asking the one question that was burning my tongue.
“Because we have no power to intercept it from happening. Unlike four hundred years ago, when we have a monarch, the seers would inform the King and the royal family would step in to stop it. But since we have no monarch, and neither of us in the Twelve wields any power over the masses, we have no choice but to leave it be. That’s why we are desperate to find the red wolf and desperate to crown the next King.” Karl Schmidt says bitterly.
“So how does Arianna, as the prophesized red wolf, fit into the scheme of things? What does the full prophesy say?” I ask, simultaneously pulling Arianna closer against my chest.
Looks were exchanged between the five Council members in what looks like a silent conversation and I’m suddenly wondering if they’re mind linked…
Two minutes later, Sir David clears his throat. “Boris will show you..”
‘Boris will show you…’ What does that mean?
Before I’m able to ask, a blur image appears, swimming around in my peripheral vision. Simultaneously, Arianna stiffens and whimpers softly. I think she must have been surprised.
Pushing the image from my mind, I quickly whirl Arianna around, dipping my head to level my eyes with her.
“Baby.. I’m right here, it’s ok. It’s ok…” I chant over and over again, while kissing her all over her face.
“Stop it!” Arianna growls softly and I notice the image leaving my peripheral vision and disappearing completely.
“Miss Ravensdale, it was just a vision. It wouldn’t have hurt you. Boris’ gift allows him to project images he’s seen before onto others.” Sir David says softly, his tone both concerned and regretful.
“It would do you good to explain to others before you unleash your gifts onto people who are not familiar with what you can do!” My dad spits, his tone clipped and dangerously close to fury.
