- Jade's POV -
There is something so brilliant about night time, it is quiet and empty with nothing to worry about or focus on but the stillness and positive energy surrounding you. I like to spend my nights outside because that's where I feel at ease, especially midnight just like I was doing on this certain day.
I sat on the brick wall which separated the boys and girls boarding houses while smoking a cigarette, the air was finally cold as October had arrived. The best thing about night time at the boarding school was that it was completely silent and I wasn't used to that. I had lived in a busy town since I was born and there was always noise, no matter what time of the day or night. The boarding school was in the middle of the country side with a few villages miles away so there was no sound at all, only if I created it.
I inhaled the smoke for a long period of time and lifted my head up while doing so before noticing one light on in a bedroom on the second floor of the boarding house, I pulled the cigarette out of my mouth and exhaled while squinting my eyes at the window.
It was Amber and Elizabeth's bedroom, Elizabeth was sitting at the window with it wide open which was very odd. As I stared at her for a while longer I could tell she was upset, she would wipe her face every so often as if she was crying. I lifted my phone up from where it was sitting beside me and messaged Amber to ask why Elizabeth was so upset, maybe Amber didn't even know but it was worth a try.
I waited patiently for a reply before realising that it was night time and Amber would definitely be asleep even if her bedroom light was on and her room mate was crying by the window, but then I was mistaken.
"How do you know that she is upset? Are you outside at this time Jade?! You're going to get in so much trouble...."
I rolled my eyes at her reply before glancing up at Elizabeth who was still sitting by her window, somehow she hadn't noticed me watching her from the ground below. I looked down again at my phone and messaged Amber once again.
"I'm always out here at night, it's my thing. Wanna join me?" I replied before grinning widely, having somebody to talk to would be nice. Another thing I like about night is I somehow let my guard down and relax, I could speak to anybody at this time and not cause a fuss.
Amber replied with an angry message about me being irresponsible as we have school the next day but she finally came around after some persuasion. I explained to her how beautiful it was outside at this time of night and she agreed to join me for ten minutes, I told her how to sneak passed the lady who 'guards' the boarding house at night and she thanked me.
There is a woman who only works at night in the boarding house, she makes sure nobody comes in or leaves the house late at night. She thinks she is tough and that all of the girls are afraid of her but she is very easy to get passed, she doesn't pay attention after 11:00pm because by then it's two hours passed curfew and most of the girls are asleep. She will sit in the office and watch her emotional soaps while I walk straight passed the front desk and out of the door, simple.
I noticed Amber rushing out of the front door with a terrified expression on her face, she spotted me in the distance and sprinted towards me as fast as she could. When she finally reached me she collapsed onto the damp grass below my feet and choked for air, I looked down at her from the top of the brick wall and smiled.
"She almost caught me! She was crying loudly at the TV, then turned around to get a tissue and then I had to crawl to the door!" Amber shouted in panic while pointing back to the boarding house, I laughed loudly at the fearful tone in her voice as she climbed up onto the wall to sit beside me. Her blue hair was tied into a messy bun which is something I had never seen before, in the day time her hair would always be in a neat plait.
