Getting Closer

Chapter 5

(Sonic's POV)

It's been a few weeks now, and Shadow's been slowly talking to me. I don't think she trusts me. Or it's the other way around? I was confused either way.

We were in science now, and Shadow was trying to see pass her brother.

"Do you want to trade spots?... You could see better this side." Shadow was shocked when I offered to trade sides. I swore I saw the slightest smile before she nodded. With that, we traded spots and we continued on with class. We got our project today, and had to be in a group of four. Silver and I got together, then Mephiles walked up to us.

"Can my sister and I join your group?" You could tell he was smiling at us, his gaze shifted to Silver.

"Oh, Sure. Of course you two can." Silver blushed, smiling back. Mephiles nodded, and turned to his sister.

"You can come over tomorrow, so we can start. Our driver will pick you guys up tomorrow." With that the bell rang and the twins left. Silver and I walked out, and I questioned our group. They were so mysterious, and we barely knew them.

"Quit over thinking. We're just doing a project with them. Nothing's going to happen." Silver said as we walked to lunch. Again, Shadow and Mephiles were standing at their locker. Everyday they snuck away at lunch. They acted more like partners than siblings. Just the way they acted towards each other. 

"Well hello beautiful~" I got slammed against the lockers, as someone whispered in my ear. Geez, I never realized how cold his skin was.

"Are you drunk again Scourge?" Shoving him off, I saw him stumble. He only laughed and smirked.

"Maybe~..." I never noticed how his pupils turned into slits. Silver groaned at Scourge, not noticing the things I did. Scourge gave me a death glare, before back to smiling and walking away.

"That was weird." Silver nodded, before we continued on. We both got lunch, and just chatted about the project. Wondering what we're going to do for the rest of the day.

Something just felt wrong. With what Scourge was like, and now with the twins coming to town. It just seems like something more sinister. I knew something was wrong with them, they were hiding a dark secret. Just what were they hiding?

It was time for gym, and we were to do exercises together. I waited for Shadow to come out, and Mephiles was waiting for Silver. Mephiles and I chatted a little. Just got to know each other more. He's a real nice guy. Maybe I can get to know Shadow better. And with tomorrow, we'll probably get to know each other better.

(Shadow's POV)

I couldn't help but laugh at Sonic's adorable face. His face was so red. It's like he never had a girlfriend before. Or at least not of my proportions. My poor little Sonic never lost his virginity, has he? Oh the poor boy.

I got off focus, and the next thing I knew, both of us were down on the ground. Sonic fell ontop of me, his face extremely close to mine. I was very close to his neck, and almost felt my instincts kick in. I regret not eating today.

"Oh god. Sorry Shadow." Sonic stood up, and helped me up. I got lost in his beautiful emerald eyes. "Are you okay Shadz?..."

"O-Oh. Yeah." I pulled away as my cheeks heated up. I tried to hide my face from him. "So you and your friend are coming over tomorrow, right?"

"Heh. Yeah. So we can work on the project." Sonic smiled down at me, and we just stood their for awhile. It felt like forever before the teacher called us to get changed.

All that was on my mind was, How would Sonic accept me when he finds out my secret?...

That stupid school was finally over and Mephiles got held back for a quick minute. He told me to just wait by the car. I sighed, waiting outside the car. 

I could just leave him here, but I rather not. Something was off today. I saw the whole thing with that green haired guy and Sonic. He seemed... off. That green guy wasn't in first period, and I didn't seem him around other than lunch time. I noticed that he was never at lunch like we were. He just disappeared, like he never existed.

I swore I heard a girl screaming, and a voice was calling me towards it. No one else seemed to notice it. I found myself walking out of the parking-lot, towards the voice. My guard was down, everything was off balance.

"Shadow, Where are you going?.." Mephiles voice broke me out of my trance. "Why are you going to the woods?" He tilted his head at me. 

"Oh. Nothing.. Just thought something was calling me." Mephiles sighed, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"I didn't hear anything when I was following you. C'mon.. Let's just go home." He lead me back to our car. He knew something was wrong, just like I did. But he refused to think about it. "You just need some rest.."

Yeah, maybe he's right. I haven't been able to sleep for a few nights, maybe this just a figure of my imagination. Hopefully, I can get some sleep tonight..

(Shadow's nightmare)

-Normal POV-

Shadow was running as fast as she can, she could barely keep up with her brother. They were running away from the dark evil. That very evil poisoned her, giving her a lethal amount of werewolf blood. Shadow was weaken, not being able to fight back. Her brother, Mephiles, noticed her slowing down. He dragged her along, trying to get them to safety. Mephiles' mate had been killed by this evil, his mind slowly breaking. He was desperate to get his sister to safety. Not wanting another love one to die.

Shadow felt her energy draining, tripping over a tree branch. Mephiles quickly turned around on his heel, reaching towards his sister. Something with incredible speed, shot right past the two. Mephiles froze, only for his head to slide off, his body dropping down.

Shadow screamed at the top of her lungs, seeing her only family left get killed. She backed away, breathing heavily, tears streaming down her cheeks. A deep chuckle was heard all around her, Shadow was scared out of her mind. She had no more energy to fight back, barely enough to stand. The figure appeared in front of her. She could not tell any features about them, only knowing it was someone who wanted to kill her.

Shadow was frozen in fear, knowing this was her death. The man walked closer and closer, laughing creepily. She was backed into a tree, the guy was grabbed her by her neck. Lifting her up, laughing at her tears.

"Shad...." Shadow swore she heard her brother's voice. "Shadow.. Hey. Wake up.." Slowly everything was engulfed into pitch blackness. "Shadz, wake up!"

Shadow gasped, sitting up within a second. Her brother sitting next to her, concern washed over his face. Mephiles pulled his sister close, comforting her as she wept. It was all he could do.
