Brendon
*This takes place around the time Mikey and Cassie are picking up her stuff*
"Bren, she'll be fine, you know that!" Ryan says.
Right now, I'm crying because I'm scared for Ferrah. She's so young, and she's already having her chest cut open like a middle-aged man with heart problems. Poor girl.
Okay, so maybe crying is an understatement.
More like full-out bawling like a child who can't find his mother.
"I know, she's just too young..." I wail. "She's far too young to die!"
Ryan sighs. "Brendon, she's going to be just fine. You and I both know Patrick's a great surgeon. She'll make it. And I also think you also know that Ferrah's a strong girl, she'll pull through." he says, rubbing my back.
There's silence for a moment, with the exception of my sobs.
"It's no secret that you love her, Brendon. I see the way you look at her, the way you always watch out for her. The way you smile when she talks, the way you laugh when she says something clever. Everyone else knows, too."
"Oh, God." I say, beginning to cry even harder.
"Hey, Bren, I'm not done yet. I also see the way she looks at you, how she talks to her friends about you, how she says your class is her favorite. She blushes whenever your name is mentioned. It's also no secret that she likes you." Ryan continues, a slight smirk dancing across his face.
I sigh. "What are you trying to say?" I ask, becoming increasingly frustrated with the situation as a whole.
"I'm saying when she wakes up, you have a pretty big confession to make."
I look up at him, shocked. I thought he was for sure going to rat me out to Pete for having an infatuation with a student, just so he could have me back.
"You mean you're not going to go to Pete and tattle on me?" I ask in disbelief.
"Now why would I do that? You're my best friend, Brendon, I want the very best for you. Besides, Pete doesn't care, just as long as everyone's happy. Listen, we definitely had something, no doubt about it. But whatever it was that we had between us, Bren, the spark died, it died a long time ago. We've both moved on, and we need to accept that. We both need to find someone new. And I think Ferrah, for you, is that someone." Ryan says softly, trying to soothe me. He pecks me on the cheek in a friendly manner, making me blush a little.
Undoubtedly, we had something, and it's gone now. But I don't think that spark between us completely died. At least, not yet. I mean, with the touch of Ryan's lips, I still blushed a tiny bit and a couple Ryden butterflies in my stomach burst from their coffins and took a small flight before falling again, perhaps never to take flight again.
All of a sudden, without warning, I completely lose control. I break down, and I can't breathe. I can feel my throat closing, slowly suffocating me in the process. I begin to feel dizzy and lightheaded, like I could faint any second. I fall to my knees on the floor in front of the bench we were just sitting on moments ago.
Immediately, the nurse in Ryan comes out.
"Brendon?" Ryan asks, kneeling beside me and holding me up, preventing me from collapsing to my side. "Brendon, can you hear me?" he asks in a more urgent manner.
