Autumn

Pete Wentz was seated right in front of me and the room was completely silent for at least thirty seconds as he looked through his folder that he had placed on my principal's desk.

"So, I'm here to talk about transferring you to a different school, one that will suit you much better than this one." He started.

Okay, why is Pete Wentz asking me to come to a different school? That's not even his job. I'm so beyond comfused.

I kinda nodded, but slowly so that he knew I wasn't picking up what he's putting down.

"It's an emo school, I know that sounds bad but it's really not. All of your favorite band members would be your teachers, and you'd be with more kids like you. You'd be able to be yourself and not be afraid."

Okay, this made more sense, but I still had so many unanswered questions about all this.

"How did you find me?" I asked.

"We have scouts that drop hints."
"How did you know I was an outcast?"

"There is too much security footage of you being beat up." He said sadly.

I agreed with that. I get bullied way too often.

"Okay, but I dont have the money to go there."

I'm not getting my hopes up about this because I know it's just not possible. Especially not with my at home situation.

"It's completely free. All you have to do is sign here." He spoke setting a contract down on the desk in front of me and handing me a pen.

I read over the paper carefully, making sure not to miss any small details or anything.

"This is too perfect. What's the catch?"

I was begging to get slightly frustrated with this. The more available it seemed to me, the more I wanted something I knew I would never have.

It really was perfect though, free meals, free place to stay, free medical, free classes with all of my favorite idols, and not to mention the 110% no bullying policy. I want it.

"There is no catch, we just care about you. That's all."

His eyes were so promising, I had to sign the contract. It was better this way, for me at least.

I looked down at it and began writing my signature. I giggled softly as I did this and it seemed to catch Pete's attention.

"Are you alright?" He asked with his eyebrow cocked as if he were confused.

"I'm perfect, I just never thought you would be the one asking me for my signature." I smiled handing him the contract, the ink still wet on the paper where I signed.

I was definitely feeling anxious about this whole thing, but I can't see it going any worse than this school.

Pete stood up and I stood with him, ready to follow him.

"Where are we going now?" I asked as we walked out of the school and through the parking lot.

"Well, we're going to stop by your house and grab your stuff and get your mom's signature." He said as he hopped into a white Chevy Tahoe and started it.

"Well, my mom she..." Sadness instantly hit me as I got into the vehicle.

Pete looked at me. "She what Autumn?"

"She's not there anymore. She died about a year and a half ago to Hodgekin's Lymphoma." I spoke playing with my hands.

"Oh, well I'm very sorry to hear that." He said as the smile ran away from his face. "We can always get one from your dad." He tried to cheer me up.

"I'll let you do all the talking there." I said as I sat back.

My dad isn't the kind of guy you have a conversation with about really anything. He's just kind of learned to block his emotions out completely.

Money has been really tight around our household since my mom passed away, she had the job that made the most money and all of the medical bills kinda drained all of our savings. It only got worse when about five months later my little brother was diagnosed with the same thing my mom had. He's only eight but he's not expected to make it either.

Things are just tough.

The rest of the drive to my house was kind of silent. Thankfully Pete turned the music on and Paramore was on the radio so I could sing along and not have to deal with the awkwardness.

It all changed when we pulled up to my house however...
