Chapter IX: Quiet Lies

POV: Seth

You know being in the hospital sucks even more when the person there with you won't even say anything! I know this is hard for Daniel, but does he really think that things are going to get better if he just sits here and pouts. My wrist was throbbing and it hurt to move my torso. My lips felt cracked and chapped. It was only Thursday, and Avalie wasn't coming until the weekend. The whole week had been unbearable with basically no one.

Feeling lonely, I texted Avalie. With one hand of course, thank god I had an iPhone. It made it a lot easier.

S: HEY AV. SO BORED. DANIEL WON'T TALK 2 ME...

I only had to wait for a minute before my phone buzzed with a response. My heart sped up just a little, and I smiled.

A: AWWW THE POOR THING! I MISS U SETH, IT'S HARD 2 GO 2 SCHOOL W/OUT U :(

S: IKR. I CAN'T WAIT TIL THIS WKND

A: OMG YES! WANNA HEAR SOME NEWS?

S: SURE

What news could she possibly have? Would it have something to do with that guy...Jack?

A: ME & ZACH STARTED DATING!

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. It was Zach. My heart felt like it was being squeezed, balled up and thrown at a wall.

-Come on, man up-

But it hurt, and I couldn't tell her that.

-Yay man! Now you get to pretend you're happy for her and that this is great, when really you want to punch that son of a bitch-

Why should he get to love her? I'd already done it half my life, and he barely knew her. Slowly I typed a reply;

S: COOL :)

That smiley face was pretty painful to put, but it had to be done.

-You're pathetic, you know that? You could never just ask her out, tell her you liked her-

I had always wanted it to be her choice, though.

A: :D I GTG :* C U THIS WKND!

I couldn't respond, so I just didn't. The idea of her coming, wasn't as appealing anymore. I sighed, just wanting to sleep. I wish I could've talked to Daniel, but I don't think he knows how much I like her. Besides, it's not like he's going to say anything to me.

POV: Zach

I was full of confidence after asking Avalie out. She was my girlfriend!

-You go dude!-

I was on my way to yet another one of our lunch dates. I smiled at her sitting at our regular table, so perfect and beautiful. "Hey girlfriend." I winked.

Her cheeks turned slightly pink, "Hi Zach."

We talked and laughed for fifteen minutes straight. Her smile was full of happiness. I was cracking up while she told me a story of how Char had forgotten to close the washer, and nearly flooded the laundry room.

She stopped laughing, her tone turning serious, "You know how you and Char used to date?"

"Yeah?" I asked questioningly.

"Why did you two break up?"

I sighed, "Char cheated on me, at a party."

"Like...?"

"Sex."

Her eyes widened, "O-oh," she stuttered. "Who broke up with who."

"I broke up with her," I lied. "But it's ok, we're past it. At least I am."

Avalie nodded. "I need to go," she said sounding flustered.

"Ok bye," I faked a smile.

She barely smiled back, then rushed out.

-Way to go man, real smooth. NOT!-

I hope I hadn't scared her away for good, we just got together.

POV: Avalie

After classes, I waited in our room for Char to get there. I couldn't believe she had cheated on someone as sweet as Zach! I wanted to ask her...why she'd done it I guess. I wasn't mad at her, but I wanted to understand why.

The door creaked and she swung it open wildly, "Hey hey hey!"

"Hey Char," I said less enthusiastically.

"What crawled up YOU'RE butt today?"

"Why did you cheat on Zach?" The worlds spilled out quickly, barely decipherable.

She still understood, "What do you mean...why?"

"Like I don't get it. I'm not gonna give you a speech, but I just want to know."

"W-well I don't really know. Um it was a really stupid mistake. I regret it, but I can't change it." She stared at the floor.

I felt bad, "It's ok Char, I just wanted to know. Who was it w-"

"Jeff damn Collier." She was seething.

"The sleaze bag?"

"Yeah it was shitty, but it's over."

"Was it hard when Zach broke up with you?"

"What are you talking about?"

I gave her a baffled look.

"Did he tell you that?"

I nodded.

"Damn liar! He was going to stay with me! I felt so horrible though, I had to break up with him."

My head was starting to hurt, "Why did he lie to me?"

Why did he tell Avalie he broke up with Char? He should know that's not the way to start a relationship! I hope you like the update! This story is getting twisted up! Poor Seth though, I mean really!
