POV: Seth
Avalie looked dead asleep.
Char turned to me, "Is she sleeping?"
I kicked her lightly with my foot. She muttered something that sounded like 'sack'. Or Zach.
-Whoop there it is!-
"Yeah she's definitely asleep, and most likely dreaming about ZACH," I said his name with sarcasm.
Char smiled, "So I take it you don't like them being together either?"
"Yeah not really, I kind of used to like her," I looked at Char. "Why'd you say either?"
She sighed loudly, "Zach and I used to date. I took Avalie to a party the first night she came to Jackson Prep, and she met Zach there. When she told me about him, we got into a big fight that night. We made up the next day, but it's hard to see them together. When she tells me about their relationship, it feels like she's telling me everything that I'm missing out on with him."
I smiled sadly, "Believe me, I know the feeling. When I think about him with Avalie, I can't help but wish that was me."
"Oh really, I thought you USED to like her?" She raised her eyebrows inquisitively.
"Okay so maybe I still kind of do. What does it matter? She's never going to see me as anything other than her bestfriend."
Char looked thoughtful, "The thing is I want to get over him, I just don't have the right person to help me yet."
Maybe I could be that person. Avalie was amazing of course, but Char seemed like she was too. Can you blame a guy for wanting to move on from something that will never be? "Same here Char."
"Were you and Avalie ever together?" She stared at the floor.
"No but she was my first kiss."
-Jeez are you just gonna tell her everything? You barely know this girl!-
I didn't care. It felt good talking to Char. She seemed to make it better. I had hidden my feelings for so long, and it felt freaking good to finally tell them to someone. Especially someone who understood.
Char smiled at me, "Awwww so romantic! How old were you guys?"
"Sixth grade. She wanted to 'see what it was like'. I just wanted to kiss her. I've liked her ever since, but I'm trying to move on."
Char laughs, "Aren't we all?"
Just then I thought of something, "Why did you and Zach break up? Please tell me he's a douchebag that doesn't deserve Avalie."
Char looked sad, "It's quite the opposite. Zach is amazing, I broke up with him because I cheated on him...kind of."
I was shocked, Char didn't strike me as a cheater. "Oh jeez, why were you the one to break up with him? And what do you mean kind of?"
Char looked nervously at me. She opened her mouth hesitantly as if to say something, but then stopped herself. "He was willing to stay with me, he loved me that much. I felt so horrible and guilty, that I had to end it."
I nodded, and on instinct, I wrapped my arms around her to give her a hug. As we sat there, it dawned on me that she had never explained why she had said kind of. I pushed it out of my mind, I wasn't about to ask her now.
POV: Char
His arms felt warm and amazing, too bad I wanted to slap myself.
-And you deserve it you idiot, you almost told him!-
I couldn't believe I had come that close to letting it slip. I wanted to tell him so bad, to answer why, but I was ashamed. Just as ashamed as I was when Zach saw me.
-You can never tell-
When am I going to stop having to reminding myself of that?
-Probably never.
Since when did you get so negative?
If you had told him...
Stop-
I didn't argue with myself any further. I just enjoyed being wrapped up in Seth's arms.
-I would love for us to get over our broken hearts together-
I smiled to myself at the thought of it. My stomach growled to interrupt my thoughts, "Hey can we get some food? I'm kind of hungry."
Seth smiles and starts to stand up, "Sure thing."
Immediately I miss his arms.
-Jeez, when did you get so sappy?-
I reluctantly stand up and follow Seth down the stairs. When we get to the kitchen he begins to dig through the pantry.
With a grin on his face, Seth pulls out a package of double-stuffed Oreos.
I jump up and down excitedly, "Yes! I love these!"
I start with two Oreos, but end up eating six. Oh well, Seth's not the type to judge.
-You say that like you know him-
I run my tongue across my teeth to get any remaining cookie crumbs before I speak, "Even if Avalie isn't IN love with you, you should know that she absolutely loves you."
"Why do you say that?" There is a cookie crumb on his bottom lip. It's completely adorable.
"You text all the time, you're bestfriends on snapchat, she knows everything about you, aside from how much you like her."
"Yeah, I can't really live without her. When we fought over the summer, I don't know how I did it. Yet it doesn't change a thing," he said bitterly.
"Any girl would be lucky to have you, if she doesn't realize this, it's not your fault," I stated imploringly.
Seth stared deeply into my eyes, "Any girl?"
