PART ONE

Chapter 2: A Flash

You love, who you love, who you love. Oh you love, who you love, who you love.

The lyrics spun through my head like a trance, while I was twirling my pencil through my fingers. The song that we had sung so many times together. That we created together.

You love, who you...

"Katy!" My assistant, Tamra yelled.

Dropping my pencil, "Yeah, sorry, what?"

Tamra: "I said your name a least 5 times! Are you okay?"

"Yes, sorry! I was just... Day dreaming. I'm totally fine!"

I wasn't.

Tamra: "We need your opinion on this costume idea for the VMA's next month."

Was it already that time again?

"Sure, that's great! Beautiful idea!"

Brad, my manager: "You're still planning on singing Unconditionally right, Katy?"

My heart ached at the sound of that song title.

"Um.. Ya, that sounds good. My fans really love that song, it's a good one to sing for them."

The rest of our meeting went by like a blur. It was getting late and by the time eleven o'clock hit, we decide to call it a night.

I open the back doors to a flood of flashing lights and paparazzi.

God, do they ever sleep?!

Tamra and my body guards attempt to help me make it to my car. The paparazzi are relentless tonight! They keep pushing closer and closer, I can't see a thing!

Finally, we make it to my car and I feel the familiar seat cushion beneath me. Dickhead paparazzi! Are they trying to blind me?

I honk my horn to make them move out of my way, but the flashes keep coming. I make my way to the end of the parking lot and wait for an opportunity to pull into traffic.

Camera flash, after camera flash keep coming and I can barely see the street. I hear my assistant outside yelling at the paparazzi to leave me alone.

Ya, kick their asses, Tamra!

At last, I think I found a moment to drive onto the street. I quickly speed away and let out a sigh of relief.

Still seeing spots and lights everywhere, I firmly close my eyes for a second to clear my vision.

When I open them I still see a light. But this one is brighter, and coming closer.

I hear a loud horn, screeching, and then nothing.

Everything goes black.
