Chapter 19

.:.Wesley's POV.:.

After tonight, we went back to the car in silence. No words were spoken, a restless sigh leaving my lips. As we neared her apartment, the flashing lights of a police car shown in the driveway, another parked at an angle by the curb.

"What the hell is happening?" I asked indirectly. I stared at the scene as the cops roamed the premises. Althea turned to me wide-eyed, unaware of the happenings that were currently going on.

"Sir. Is there a problem?" I said, as we stood in front of the car. We were a little cautious of approaching the officer, so we waited until he spotted us and came over to speak.

"Is this your apartment?" He asked me, a concerned look on his face.

"It's my girlfriends."

"It's mine."

We spoke simultaneously.

"Someone's broken into you're apartment. Nothing was stolen." He informed us. Althea was scared, the shock and emotion clear in her expression. I was scared for her. Who would want to break into her apartment.

"Did you find who did it?" He nodded, keeping quiet. It seemed that he knew something he wasn't telling us.

"He kept calling out a name? Althea, I believe?" He admitted, hesitant to her reaction. The expression left her face leaving her speechless.

As a cop came down the front door and steps of the apartment, a guy with brown spiked up hair, had his hands cuffed behind him, hte police handling him as the guy struggled in his grasp.

"Althea. Tell them you know me. It's me!" He confessed, calling out to her.

"How the hell did you find me?" She quietly asked him. He looked her in the eye, the cop coming to a full stop as Althea continued to speak.

"Answer me!"

"I got a hold of Emmie. She hadn't realized it was me until she told me." He admitted in breathless pleas. His struggle under the cops grasp stopped, his face sad.

"You shouldn't be here. I left for a reason." She said. Her stance was dead, lifeless. Like everything was falling apart before her. And I couldn't stand being the one to witness this. A few other cops passed us, speaking in quiet murmurs.

"I came back for you." He slurred, obvious evidence of heavy drinking.

"I left for a reason! Don't you understand that! It wasn't just you... It was everyone back down in that hell hole of a state. I ran away for a reason!" She cried out, startling the drunken-ed Scott. He left it at that, his shoulder slumming down in defeat.

She ran up to the apartment, slamming  the door behind her as she wiped the tears from her face. She had never told me she ran away from home. I always assumed she moved out here just because she wanted a fresh start. That's what she told me. I didn't realize she left everything she had back there and dropped it all to begin again.

"I'm sorry Sir." I said politely, apologizing to him.

"It's alright. I understand. Everything has been checked and the premises passed. We'll be leaving shortly." He nodded before walking back to join the other officers.

I made my way up the steps, letting myself into the apartment I'd become so familiar with. The slight scent of Althea's favorite lotion filled my senses. I locked it, quietly searching for her. The living room was empty so my last resort was the bedroom, where she was layed out of the mattress.

Her chin rested on her crossed arms as she layed on her stomach.

I lightly tapped a knuckle to the wood of the door, slightly creaking it open as she came into view. A few sobs could be heard from Althea as she hid her face in her arms.

"Can I come in?" I asked with caution. She replied nothing, only to turn her head away. Her small frame moved as she sobbed.

I sat down onto the mattress beside her. My hand rested on her arm, somewhat calming her down. She stopped sobbing, sitting up to face me. Her eyes were red, welled up with tears as she struggled to keep eye contact.

"You never told me you ran away..." I said sternly, my eyes focused on Althea. Her movements were slow, continuing her avoidance. Her head turned away from me, the moment becoming more emotional. She pulled her knees up to her chest wrapping her arms around them. Her chin rested on her knees.

"Look at me." I quietly demanded. She struggled, her eyes withheld, unable to meet mine. I cupped her cheek in my hand, turning her to me. Her eyes forcibly met mine, fear in her eyes.

Her eyes were full of fear, hurt, raw emotion. My thumb caressed her cheek as I wiped away a tear.

"How could I tell you? That I was a coward? Running away from my past. Oh geeze, it's that simple." She bit back, her comment coming off more hasty than expected.

"You know me, I never judged you. Never." I confessed. My head turned to the floor, the feeling of her not believing my words sending me through shock.

"I was... I was scared, that you would think of me differently. I left out that I ran away because I felt vulnerable and scared." She cried, her hand falling into her hands.

"I'd always be here to protect you..." I affirmed. Her head raised up, our eyes almost leveled. I wrapped my arms comfortably around her small frame, her body shaking as she cried.

Her head lay comfortably on my chest as I held her close. Her familiar scent sent me through a frenzy, realization that she was still here with me.

"Why." She asked me, my mind becoming confused. Her words were muffles against me, but I understood what she had meant. "Why are you still here with me, after everything."

I couldn't answer her with words, it didn't work that way. I couldn't find myself to speak the three words I longed to confess her in all my entirety.

She pulled away, her eyes filled with curiosity as I withheld. My hands cupped her face gently, pushinaway the hair that covered her beautiful face. I leaned in, my lips becoming one with hers. Our breathing became shallow as the passion deepened.

"I- I could never leave..." I struggled.

She peered up at me, her lips needily crashing into mine again. My lips curved into a smile as she tangled her hands into my hair, tugging and teasing me.

I pulled her into my embrace, her smaller body fitting perfectly with mine. Her head rested against my chest again.

"Because I love you." I whispered into her hair. Her eyes found mine, the words effortlessly falling from my mouth.

"I love you." She whispered against my lips.
