It was Tuesday night, nothing really happened at school. It was twin day, as in twin with your date. Lucas and I didn't really feel like going all out, so we went casual. I was wearing blue skinny jeans, my black nike shirt, and nike slides. Lucas wore blue jeans, his black nike shirt, and nike slides. We actually got so many complements. I also curled my hair the night before and they looked good this morning so I wore them to school.
Anyways, Taylor said that she couldn't come over tonight. I was laying in bed and I just got done with my homework. I was watching TV when my phone buzzed. It was from Lucas.
"Hey." He texted.
"️Heyy." I send.
"Today people kept telling me something you said." Lucas texted.
"Like what?" I ask.
"That you like me and wanna date ;)" he sends.
"You believed the rumors?" I ask.
"No, I just wanted to ask you about it." Lucas said.
"What about it?" I ask.
"If you actually like me." Lucas said.
"Well do you like me?" I ask.
"Yeah, kinda. I asked you out twice, even after you rejected me. By the way that hurt a lot. I also just asked you to hoco, so yeah Sam I kinda sorta like you." Lucas said, I think he would've said it in an aggressive tone.
"Sorry for rejecting btw :/ Anyways, yeah I like you too. I just don't want to be distracted, which I'm debating on if it actually will be a distraction. I also don't want everyone peer pressuring us into something. Can we just keep it in the friend zone at least until after hoco?" I ask.
"I guess so.." Lucas sent.
"Do you maybe wanna come over just to hang out? I'm done with homework." I send.
"Will it help you make up your mind as to what you want?" Lucas asked.
"Most likely." I send and roll my eyes in real life.
"Ok let me make sure my family and I don't have anything going in tonight." Lucas sends.
A few minutes later he responded that he would be coming over. I turned off my phone and quickly cleaned up my room. I through on leggings and an oversized sweater. I put my hair in a side braid and ran into Haley's room.
"Lucas is coming over, be chill." I say.
"I'll be so chill." Haley said and smiled.
"That's the smile that says you will be anything but chill. Just please don't embarrass me." I say.
"I won't, I promise." Haley said.
I went downstairs and quickly made the kitchen and living room look nice. I heard a knock at the door and ran over to answer it.
"Hey-" I stopped suddenly.
The person was smiling and holding suitcases.
"Who are you?" I ask.
"I'm Adam Porter." He said.
"Oh, you're here for Haley." I say.
"Yeah, you're Sam, right? She talks about you all the time." Adam said.
"That's nice." I smile.
"Can I come in?" He asked.
"Oh, right. Sorry." I say and make way for him.
Adam set his suitcases down and awkwardly smiled at me.
"Where's Haley?" He asked.
"Shhh. I have to talk to you first. Listen here, buddy. Haley loves you, and you better love her. Got it? Do not break her, she is strong and I'm guessing you know that. Well guess what? I'm just as strong as her. So once she calls me crying and the second she even tries to say your name I will drive to your house and you won't like it." I whisper.
"Well, I see a resemblance between you two. No worries, I love her and I have a secret for you. I'm going to ask her to move in with me, well have us find a house together. Once we're in a house together it's going to be hard to just break up, right?" He whispered.
"That's sweet of you to love her that much. Still, until you guys leave I want to see that you love her. I'll call her down for you now." I smile.
"Thanks." Adam smiled.
"Haley, this guy is here." I yell.
"Ooh, is it the pizza I ordered?" She asked and ran down the steps.
"Did you bring pizza?" I asked.
He shook his head.
"No." I call back.
She came down the steps and saw Adam.
"Oh, I thought you were coming later." She smiled and hugged him.
"I left early because I love you so much." He said and I gave him a thumbs up.
"That's sweet." She said and kissed his cheek.
"I have to ask you something." Adam said and they sat down at the island.
"Ok." Haley smiled.
"I've been thinking that we both live in small apartments, and we sleep over at each other's apartments-" Adam said.
"I left my cereal there by the way." Haley cut him off.
"See, we practically live with each other. How about we actually buy a house together?" He asked her.
"Seriously?" She smiled.
"You bet." He responded.
"Yes, of course." She smiled and kissed him.
The thought of my sister living with her boyfriend led to the thought of marriage and kids, which would mean that I'll be an aunt. I'm so excited for them to get married now. They're only twenty one but she's always said she wants to get married a little young, have a big wedding, and have a big family too.
The doorbell rang. I opened it, thinking it was the pizza delivery guy.
"Hey." Lucas smiled.
I forgot Lucas was coming over.
"Oh, hey." I said and let him in.
Lucas's eyes found their way to Adam and Haley hugging.
"That's my sister, they just decided to move in together so they're happy. We can just go upstairs." I say.
There was a knock at the door.
"After I answer the door for the third time in five minutes." I say.
This time it was actually the pizza guy.
"Haley, your pizza is here." I say and walk away from the door.
I guided Lucas up to my room and I sat in one of my chairs.
"What do you want to do?" I ask.
"I dunno." He shrugged and sat in the other chair.
"I know people talk about weather in a boring conversation but it is actually really nice out compared to the past few days." I said and laughed.
"I thought I was the only one enjoying this weather but yeah." Lucas agreed.
"You probably don't remember my sister, I mean how could you if her face is in her boyfriends? Anyways, she was a senior when we were freshman and we both played on the varsity team together." I say.
"Oh, I remember her alright. My brother, Landon, graduated the year after your sister and he had the biggest crush on her." Lucas chuckled.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah and when she graduated he found out that she had a younger sister, which is you. He was still interested in Haley so he was going to go out with you so that he could see your sister. I told him that you don't date and that Haley left for college. It worked seeing as you two never went out." Lucas laughed.
"Nice to know." I laugh.
"That made Landon sound really creepy. He wasn't obsessed with Haley he just found her nice and attractive and he was never going to actually use you. He's a really nice guys, trust me." He assured.
"Ok, I was a bit worried at first. I was about to suggest that Landon doesn't come for pictures on Saturday." I giggle.
"Yeah, haha. We should have Tay and Gavin take pictures with us." Lucas suggests.
"Yeah, and Cassie and Jason." I say.
"Where should we take pictures?" He asks.
"Ooh, Taylor has a really pretty garden in her back yard. There's pretty trees and flowers. There's an arch with vines on it, and a bench. It's so pretty." I say.
"Ok, so we'll have them taken at Taylor's house." Lucas agreed.
"She has a big property along a dirt road and the garden is a bout twenty yards from her house and then there's like a path in the garden and you go through it to get into the woods. In the woods there's a little pond and a small shack that her dad made for her when we were little. We had bunk beds and a table in there so that we could have sleepovers in there. It was so fun." I smile.
"Gavin, Jason, Taylor, Cassie, you and I could go there for a mini after party. I never liked the big ones." Lucas suggested.
"Yeah, we should ask Taylor about all this before we just show up at her house." I say.
"Yeah, you can ask her tomorrow." Lucas nods.
"Ok, I will." I say.
"What time should I pick you up?" He asks.
"The dance starts at six, we should start taking pictures at five, so probably four thirty." I say.
"Alright, sounds good." Lucas says.
"Do you by chance have just a black tie?" I ask.
"Every guy has a plain black tie." Lucas says.
"Alright because my dress and heels are black so we needed to match. As for undershirt a white one would look best, actually if you showed up with a purple or pink on I wouldn't go closer than twenty feet to you." I say.
"Wow, ok." He chuckles.
"And black pants, not grey." I say.
"Will do." He says.
"Do you want to teach me how to throw a football?" I ask.
"You can't throw a football?" He raised an eyebrow.
"I don't understand football whatsoever." I say.
"Then yeah, I'll teach you how to throw a football." Lucas said.
We walked down stairs. We passed Haley and Adam looking at houses. Adam saw me a kissed her cheek, I gave him another thumbs up. We went out the door leading to the garage. It was clean, for once, and we rummaged for a football.
"I found one." I say.
"Perfect." He said.
We went out to the back yard. He was showing me how to grip it.
"Now just throw it. Your arm should have the same movement as if you were serving it, but you let go and follow through." He said and ran in front of me about forty feet.
I threw it and it was not accurate at all.
"Oh my god this was a terrible idea." I laugh and cover my face.
"No, it's fine." Lucas chuckled.
He grabbed the football and came back to me. He put it in my hands and went behind me.
"Here, I'll show you." He said.
He angled me sideways and made my free hand point forward. He pulled my hand holding the ball back and up. He outlined my figured and went through the movement. It was actually a good throw. His hand was still on mine and he laughed. His hand slid down my arm, giving me goosebumps, and followed it down to my waist.
"See I knew you could do it." He smiled.
I looked up and let out a small laugh. I looked into his eyes and zoned out. Our smiles faded and I turned to face him. My hands found their way to his chest, his were on my waist. Lucas began to lean in, I found myself doing the same. My hands were holding his shirt in their fists. His eyes closed and mine went to his lips, which were very close to mine. I closed my eyes as well. I could feel his breath getting closer, it was unsteady.
My mind found it's way to volleyball. I immediately stopped. I backed away and cleared my throat.
"I should try it by myself this time." I say and he nodded awkwardly.
Lucas grabbed the ball that I threw and weakly through back to me. It hit my stomach and it fell to the ground.
"Ouch." I say and hold my stomach.
"I'm sorry I should've taught you how to catch." He said.
"It's fine." I say with a laugh. That laugh turned into me laughing like a crazy person.
The next thing I knew I was on the ground laughing and Lucas was laughing as well. After a while we went back inside and went to my room.
"What're you wearing tomorrow?" I ask.
Tomorrow was opposite gender day.
"My mom has these maternity shirts that she said would fit tight on me. They're maternity so they're big." Lucas shrugged.
"I have a bunch of oversized sweaters." I point to my closet.
"Can we look through them because the maternity clothes would seem obvious I'm using my moms clothes." He said.
"Right." I laugh.
We went into my closet, it's a walk in, and began looking through my sweater rack. We ended up finding a large floral sweater that fit him.
"I have a purse you can wear, too." I say and turn to the other rack.
I found a black purse that I wouldn't care if he ruined.
"Then wear skinny jeans and a pair of converse." I laugh.
"Ok, this'll be awesome. What're you wearing tomorrow?" He asked.
"Eh, I'm not participating. I asked Haley if any of her ex's left a sweatshirt over and she said no." I shrug.
"What about your dad?" He asked.
"My dad left when I was a year old, I don't remember him." I say quietly.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Lucas said.
"It's fine, I mean I heard he was having an affair with my mom anyways. Hurt me, that's one thing, hurt my loved ones? That's another." I say.
"Right. Well, I probably have something in my car. I have a lot of stuff in my car." Lucas said.
"I guess we can go look." I say.
We went into the driveway and opened the back doors.
"Woah, this is a lot of stuff." I say.
"Yeah, after games or practice or anything I just throw it back here." He shrugs.
"So, what're we looking for?" I ask.
"I probably have sweatshirts in here. I recommend that whatever we find you should wash tonight." He said.
"Alright." I giggle.
We looked through his car. I held up a pink flip flop, size 8 women's.
"Really?" I raise my eyebrow.
"I swear to god, that is Landon's girlfriend's flip flop. His car was in the repair shop and he had to use mine all the time. I have never had a girl in this car. If I did then it would be clean." He said.
"Hmm, alright." I say and put the shoe back.
"Ah, here we go." Lucas pulled up three sweatshirts.
We both got out of the car and held up the clothes.
"This is my school football sweatshirt. This is Landon's college, it's not his I just bought a sweatshirt when he signed there. This one is last years football sweatshirt." He said.
They all said something on the back. The two football ones said 'CLARK' and '50' on the back. The college one said 'CLARKS LIL BRO'
"I don't think you'd want the college one." He said and threw it back in the car.
"Yeah, probably not." I laugh.
"If you want I can bring you just an Adidas one tomorrow." Lucas said.
"No, this one is fine." I say and point to last years football sweatshirt, it was smaller.
"I would give you those sweatpants but they'd be extremely long." He said.
"Yeah, I'll just wear my Adidas pants, the black ones with three white stripes. Girls and guys wear them, so I'm good." I say.
"What about shoes?" He asked.
"I have basketball shoes from when I did eighth grade basketball, they're high tops." I say.
"Perfect. Ooh, I have an idea." He said.
He opened up the middle counsel and pulled out three bottles of something. It was cologne.
"Pick one." He said.
I grabbed them and sniffed them all.
"Why do you have so much cologne?" I ask.
"I wanna smell good for the ladies." He smirked.
"Sure." I say.
"I have axe in there, too." He said.
"We can just spray this with Axe then." I say.
We sprayed it and I sneezed.
"Bless you." He laughed.
"Thanks." I say.
We headed back inside, I wanted to spray the sweater I gave him.
"We can spray the sweater then you can go home because it's getting late and I need a shower." I say.
"Alright." He nods.
I went into the bathroom and opened a cabinet.
"Pick one." I say.
"That many?" His eyes widened.
"Yeah, I wear a different one everyday. It depends on my mood.
"There's two of this one." He pointed to a PINK scent.
"Well, that ones glittery and the other isn't. I wore the non glittery one today." I say.
"Then I'll take that one." He grabbed the scent I wore today but it was he glittery one.
"You can take it with you because it'll wear off, plus you want to shimmer tomorrow." I laugh.
"What guys doesn't?" He laughed.
He chose the glittery Victoria's Secret PINK Warm & Cozy scent. It was one of my favorites.
I followed Lucas down the steps and to the door. I opened it for him.
"Bye." I say.
"See ya tomorrow." He waved.
I closed the door and headed upstairs. I hopped in the shower and reflected on what happened tonight. I almost kissed Lucas Clark. Haley was right, I won't be able to wait long, but I'll try.
