"Psst, Sam." Someone was shaking me.
I groaned and tried to go back to sleep, except I remembered it was Christmas. I sat straight up and saw Haley leaned over me.
"Merry Christmas." I smile.
"Merry Christmas, let's go wake Adam up." She smiled.
I nodded and we went back into her room. A week ago my mom said that she wanted Haley and Adam for Christmas. She said that they could go to Adams family every other holiday, but she got Christmas. It made sense, so that's why Adam is here right now. Once I found out he would be coming for Christmas I immediately went out and bought him an apple gift card, mom got him and Haley a MacBook for their apartment, so I got him an apple gift card and got Haley a sweater she's been wanting.
"Adam..." Haley whispered.
She was shaking him, he wasn't waking up. I went in the bathroom and got a Dixie cup full of cold water. I dumped it on him, he shot straight up with wide eyes.
"Merry Christmas, Hun." Haley smiled and pecked his lips.
Awkward.
"Merry Christmas." He smiled and stood up.
"Let's go get mom." I smile.
"Y'all wake up really early on Christmas." Adam said tiredly.
"We slept in a little." I shrugged, which was true. We usually wake up at six, it was seven.
"Wow.." He mumbled.
I walked into my moms room and jumped on her bed.
"It's Christmas." I smile.
"Merry Christmas." She groaned.
I pulled her out of bed and we went downstairs. I sat on the couch and waited for my mom to hand us our presents. Once we finished opening all of them we were cleaning up wrapping paper. Instead of helping cleaning up, Adam ran upstairs quickly.
"Ugh, he should be helping." Haley rolled her eyes.
"It's fine, it looked like he was really anxious and in a hurry to get something upstairs." I say.
"Maybe it's a present he forgot upstairs." My mom said.
Haley sat back down on the couch and was talking to me about my volleyball shoes. I saw Adam appear in front of Haley with his hands behind his back, my mom was smiling wide. Something was up. My mom pulled out her phone and began recording Adam. Haley's cheeks turned red as she smiled.
"What're you doing?" She giggled.
"Haley Grace Holmes, I know everything about you. How you act when you're super happy or excited, your biggest dreams, how beautiful you are. I know everything there is to know, except one thing and one thing only." Adam got down on one knee.
My jaw dropped completely. He pulled out a black velvet box and Haley gasped.
"The one last question I need to ask is, will you marry me?" Adam smiled and opened the box.
Haley's eyes immediately glistened with tears. She smiled wide and nodded. They both stood up and put the ring on her finger. They kissed, which I didn't even care if it was awkward to watch, because I'm going to be a sister-in-law. Adam is going to be my brother-in-law.
"Oh. My. God." I covered my mouth.
My mom ended the video and put her phone away.
"I feel bad for threatening you when I met you now." I say to Adam.
Everyone semi laughed at what I said. I stood up and hugged Haley for a long time. Marriage is a crazy, crazy thought. Haley hugged my mom and I looked at Adam. I wrapped my arms around him and smiled. Haley and Adam sat down on the couch while my mom went to make breakfast. I awkwardly sat there while they sat there being a happily newly engaged couple.
I stood up and walked away a little. I grabbed the house phone and dialed Lucas's number, which I didn't know I had memorized until I had to dial it without my phone.
"Hello?" Lucas asked, he didn't have this number saved.
"Merry Christmas, guess what happened?" I say.
"Merry Christmas, and what?" He asked.
I turned to Adam and asked if I could tell Lucas. He nodded and smiled.
"Adam proposed to Haley like ten minutes ago." I say excitedly.
"Really?" He asked.
"Yeah, really. I wouldn't be lying. I'm so excited, I'm going to be a sister-in-law." I say.
"That's crazy." He said in amazement.
"Sam!" Haley called.
"One second." I tell Lucas.
I turn to look at her.
"Will you be my maid of honor?" She asked.
"Yes!" I say excitedly.
I put the phone back to my ear.
"I got to go, Lucas. I'm very overwhelmed. I am now the maid of honor and so I'm freaking out and I have to go before I scream and it's Christmas so have fun with your family. Merry Christmas, I love you." I say.
"Alright, tell them I said congrats. Love you." He said and hung up.
I ran over to Haley and hugged her. I'm not sure how I'll plan the bridal shower and whatnot but I'm sure my mom could help.
This was by far the best Christmas surprise ever. Soon to be Misses Porter. Haley Grace Porter.
