It was Sunday night and the school is having a spirit week for homecoming. Tomorrow is pink out, since it's breast cancer awareness month. I was laying in bed and my mom poked her head in my room.
"Guess who's home?" She asked.
"Who?" I ask.
"Haley!" My mom said.
I ran downstairs to find my older sister, Haley, home from college. She's only staying for a week, but we don't see her often.
"Hey, Sam." Haley smiled as I hugged her.
"I've missed you." I say.
"I've missed you, too. Now that my season is over I can watch your games this week and mom told me homecoming is Friday. Are you going with Taylor again?" She asked.
"No, she has a boyfriend. His name is Gavin." I smile.
"Who are you going with?" My mom asked.
"Lucas Clark..." I mumble.
"Lucas Clark?!" My mom and sister asked aggressively.
"The Lucas Clark?" Haley asked.
"Yeah, it's not that big of a deal." I say.
"You have a boyfriend?" Mom asked.
"No, we aren't dating. I told him that I would consider it, but I don't know. I, glad you're here so we can talk about it." I say to Haley.
"I have to show you something I left here for you, since you have a date and all." Haley said, I followed her to her bedroom.
She opened her closet and pushed through hanging clothes she left here.
"When I was a junior I bought two dresses, the one I wore was on clearance I don't know why, but I left this one for you." Haley smiled and handed me a dress.
It was a black dress with one strap and a sparkly vine patter going across it. (A/N: see picture above)
"I love it." I say and thank Haley.
"I have some shoes and maybe jewelry to go with it, I can show you later though. For now you can tell me how much better Lucas Clark looks since he was a freshman." Haley winked to me.
Haley was a senior when I was a freshman, which means that we played on the varsity volleyball team together for a year. Anyways, Lucas has grown about six inches since freshman year. Sophomore year was a rough patch for him, and it wasn't even that bad. Every once in a while he would have a breakout of zits, they'd be gone in a week. Lucas's hair, though. In freshman year I thought it was the cutest thing, now it's the hottest thing. See the difference? It is perfection on a head. His voice has obviously dropped and he has more abs now. Not quite a six pack but almost there. I was showing Haley pictures of him on his and his friends instagrams.
"I can't believe you're going to homecoming with him." Haley laughed.
"I can't believe I'm risking a distraction by going to homecoming with him." I say.
"Sam, I had plenty of boyfriends throughout high school, they never distracted me. They won't distract you either. Boyfriends still don't distract me, I mean I'm not distracted now." She shrugs.
"Are you dating someone?" I ask.
"Yeah, remember Adam? I'm still dating him." She said.
"It's been like a year, I thought you broke up because he didn't come down with you." I say.
"He's been busy this week so he couldn't. He's coming for thanksgiving, though. His family is going to his older brother's house for thanksgiving so he's just coming with me." Haley said.
"I can't wait to see him, I haven't seen him since Fourth of July." I say.
"Yeah, he's great." Haley said and plopped on the bed, I sat next to her.
"You wanna marry him?" I wiggle my eyebrows.
"I'm only telling you this because you're my sister, but yeah. We've been dating for a year and seven months. I love his so much, and I really want to spend my life with him." Haley whispered to me.
"That's so cute." I say.
Haley smiled and her phone went off.
"Hello?" She asked into the phone.
"Hey." A mans voice said over the phone.
"I thought you were busy this week." Haley said, she must be talking to Adam.
"I found free time to talk to you. I think I could come down on Tuesday night. I had stuff free up and I haven't seen your family in a while. I feel like I should be seeing them more than I do." Adam said.
"Really? That'd be great, you're amazing." Haley's eyes brightened.
"Alright I'll see you Tuesday night." Adam said.
"I love you." Haley said.
"I love you more." Adam said.
"Bye." Haley smiled. À
"Bye." Adam chuckled and hung up.
Haley put down her phone.
"I heard." I say to stop her from telling me he's coming down.
"See these are the reasons that I love him so much." Haley smiled.
"He is something." I smile.
"Enough about Adam. I know you don't want to date, but Lucas has to make you feel something." Haley said.
"Well, I guess," I say, "I guess I'll tell you everything since you told me you wanted to marry Adam. His hair is perfection and I just want to run my fingers through it because I feel like there isn't even gel or hairspray it's just perfect. His eyes are so easy to look into. His smile makes me want it to be because of me. He plays football, which is like the second most attractive male sport. His height is awesome. Like he's tall, but not to the point where I'm at his elbows. I'm about at his chin. His laugh is so contagious. Lucas is very smart, so he's not a dumb jock. He's really funny. He is so sweet. He knows I don't want to date and he respects that. He drives me competitive crazy. His lips aren't so thin where you can't see them but they're not so thick either. When I hugged him after he asked me to homecoming it made me wonder what it would be like to be together and be able to be in his arms whenever. I think I just..."
"Just what?" Haley asked.
"Want to date him." I mumble.
"What'd you say?" Haley leaned closer.
"Want to stay friends." I sigh.
"I think you originally said that you wanted to date him." Haley smirked.
"Maybe I do, I don't know." I say angrily.
"Yes you do." Haley laughed.
"What if I just don't call him my boyfriend, but we still do couple things?" I think.
"No such thing." Haley shook her head.
"Well I said after the volleyball season ends then we could." I say.
"You're on an elite team, Sam. Your season doesn't end." Haley said.
"After I graduate college we can date." I nod.
"He will move on at that point. If you make him wait another four months he'll probably lose interest. If you're dating a guy they could love you forever, the second you make them wait they're gone." Haley said.
"What if they truly love you? If you moved to France and broke up with Adam but said you would be back he would wait because he loves you." I say.
"Do you truly think Lucas loves you? You two haven't even kissed yet." Haley snapped.
"Well, no he obviously doesn't. I'm just saying if he actually likes me he can wait." I say.
"Can you wait, Sam? Based on what you just told me you like about him I don't think you can wait either." Haley calmed down.
"I don't think I can, but I'll have to." I sigh.
"It's not going to work." Haley smiled.
"I know..." I sigh.
I thanked Haley for the dress and went to my room. I had to plan our what I was wearing all week.
