Chapter. 10

Haley's POV

Days went by quickly, no threat, no attacks, occasional announcements, but now that there were only seven humans and nine vampires in an arena which you can barely find anyone else in, nobody was being killed. Even I couldn't sense people within twenty miles near us. I became more and more anxious as days went by, why Tom hadn't come looking for me, why none of the vampires had been hunting, but more importantly why the games were going on so long. Brooke was dancing up and down, "it's my birthday tomorrow!" She was chanting over and over on a continuous loop. I walked over to Joey,

"Umm, what are we supposedly going to give her on her birthday?" I asked

"Hmm, a knew coat?" He grinned.

"Sure, that's gunna be easy to find." I said with a sarcasm tone

"Well, can't you just kill someone and take their coat?" He asked

"Well that's a bit extreme for a present." I grinned.

"Wait I have an idea, tomorrow, you two go and play a game a bit further away, and I can build her something she's been wanting for ages." He grinned and left it at that.

------------

It was the twenty-seventh of August today, the day Brooke's been longing for. It was only just dawn when me and Joey were woken up by a mad little Brooke.

"Where's my present?" She asked grinning.

"What? Were we meant to get you a present?" Joey teased her sarcastically.

"So, you and me are going to play a game whilst Joey goes and gets the present." I said, leading her down and having to play an hour long game of predator with her. Finally Joey appeared again, smiling, before saying

"Close your eyes." He grinned leading her back towards the tree. He then revealed a platform on Brooke's branch to sleep on. He made it out of chopped wood off a big branch then tied them together with vine. It was perfect for her, because she has been wanting a flat thing to sleep on for ages.

"Thank you!" She said jumping up in the air to hug Joey. She then came to hug me, but I said,

"No credit to me, Joey did it all!" I grinned.

"Thank you Joey!" She said running up to stand on it.

I watched the sun slowly go down from my branch. We'd eaten Brooke's favourite food, pigeon. I watched Joey tell Brooke a bed time story as he tucked her up with a coat as a blanket. He hugged her then walked over to me, before sitting down to watch the sun disappear. It was early but Brooke said she wanted an early night so we gave her one.

"Well, Brooke's now thirteen years old," I sighed thoughtfully.

"Yeah." Joey said. Maybe Brooke was right, I did like Joey, but then it felt strange thinking of him as more than a friend. "I can't believe how far we've come in the games, without having to fight much." He said thoughtfully.

"I will find away to destroy these games, if it's the last thing I do." I said

"Not on your own, I want to stop them with you." He grinned.

"Then we have a team," I grinned, "but I don't want Brooke in this mission, the chances are they would kill her." I said.
