Chapter. 11

-

Haley's POV

-

Something didn't feel right, whether it was the hot sun beaming down on us, or the eery silence. I then heard an announcer, announce the people that had been killed.

-

"Alexandra, killed by Archie..." He started many tributes later I heard, "Sydney, killed by Dan..." All I could say was ha! I never liked her! "And the last murder was... Mike a vampire." That didn't surprise me, vampires usually would kill each other over food. I poked Joey to wake him up,

"I think today's going to be a big day." I sighed.

"Why?" Joey asked

"It's been exactly 4 months today, of the games commencing, the vampires must kill someone, they haven't hunted for months." I sighed

"I haven't thought of it like that, don't tell Brooke, she'll scream." Joey sighed. Anxiety was getting to me, I could sense someone two miles away, but I didn't know how to tell the others without Brooke freaking out.

"I'm going for a walk, I'll be back in an hour." I said, grabbing my bow and arrow.

"Are you sure? It's dangerous." Joey said

"Don't worry, danger is my middle name." I joked, trying to lighten the mood, "but honestly, I'll be fine." I said, climbing down the tree. I started to walk away, when I realised that it wasn't human scent I had smelt, it was vampire. I started to run away from the tree to keep Joey and Brooke safe, as the vampires had my scent. I ripped through the jungle plants when I paused to see two vampires talking. I crouched down, trying to not make a sound as I listened to their conversation.

"You don't think she's dead do you?" One vampire said. I recognised his voice as Archie's voice, which meant that the chances were, Tom was the other vampire.

"No, we can still pick up her scent." Tom snapped.

"You have a point," Archie replied.

"We still need to eliminate anything in our way, like a certain guy she's falling for." Tom said, a certain spark of evilness in his tone.

"My thoughts exactly. It's obvious that she's going to win the games," Archie said

"And then she can enjoy the next year with us." Tom smirked, "she's certainly headstrong." Tom laughed,

"I'd call her stubborn," Archie laughed back. Standing right here, I felt like yelling to them. But I wasn't offended by what they'd called me, it was true that I was stubborn and headstrong but they were just my werewolf instincts.

"I still can't decide what makes her different, because if she was a witch or a wizard, she would have been on our side and found a way out of the games." Tom said

"Which only leaves, spirit creature, ghost, super human, Secret service agent, or...a werewolf." Archie said, before bursting out with laughter.

"Yeah, you wish." Tom grinned. I lost balance and stepped back, hearing a branch snap underneath my foot. I wanted to slap myself as both vampires heads turned around to where the noise had come from. "I think she's been listening." Tom smirked, walking over to where I was trying to hide. I fired an arrow at him, but he caught it mid flight with his hand. Both vampires shot over towards me at warp speed.

-

I gulped back my fear, as I slowly stood up. "Hello Darling, glad you could make it." Tom smirked, I tried to focus my eyes as he shot behind me. "I'm surprised you came alone," he started, "I thought you actually had a brain." He smirked. I felt a cold breeze on my neck, as two cold hands touched my shoulders.

"Don't underestimate me." I warned,

"Would I dare?" He grinned. I anxiously watched him walk around me, when he placed his cold hands on my hips. I shuddered as he inched closer to me, his head only a few inches away from mine. For a second, I was worried he might bite my neck, but instead, his cold lips kissed my cheek.

"Leave...me...alone." I said, tensing up as he sent shivers up my spine.

"And miss all the fun? No that doesn't sound like me." He smirked, an evil spark in his eyes.

"I said, Leave...me...Alone!" I yelled, wriggling out of his grip. I made a quick run, when more vampires appeared and blocked my escape. I turned around to face Tom again, "please!" I begged, tears rolling down my cheeks. Tom walked closer to me, wiping a tear away with his thumb.

"Tell us what you are, and then maybe, we'll give you a chance to run." Tom said, for once looking serious. I gulped as all the vampires surrounded me, "your choice." He said, stepping back. I frantically looked around, trying to find an escape, when I heard an earsplitting scream. A few minutes later, a vampire appeared, and I recognised that innocent face anywhere, Brooke.

-

"I thought we told you to catch the boy as well." Tom yelled at the vampire.

"The boy got away, we have two vampires searching for him." The vampire replied, holding Brooke firmly.

"Leave them alone!" I yelled, all my emotions were coming out at once. I knew my secret was about to be revealed. I heard another scream and in that same second I fell to the ground as I watched Joey being grabbed by vampires. Tom lifted me to my feet by grabbing the scruff of my jacket,

"We'll let them go, if you reveal your secret." Tom grinned evilly. I took a step back, all my tears turned to anger as I watched people I loved being hurt and in that same second, I leapt into the air, morphing into a huge, dark brown wolf. All the vampires quickly took a few steps back, obviously nervous. "Well, I didn't see this one coming." Tom gulped. I launched at the vampire holding Joey and crushed his skull with my strong teeth, I then approached the vampire holding Brooke, but before I had the chance to step forwards, the vampire let go and ran away.

"Haley! Look out!" Joey yelled, and as I turned around seven vampires pinned me down. I wanted to yell out, but I can't speak in my wolf form. I wriggled and growled, but Tom had already tied my front legs together.

"Change back!" He yelled at me. I snarled at him as an answer, but Tom picked up a rope and whipped me around the neck. I whimpered in pain and before I knew it I was back as a human, with Tom pinning me down. Brooke had ran off with Joey, but I was glad they had gone.

"There! You got what you wanted!" I yelled at Tom. Both my hands were tied behind my back.

"Yeah and thanks to you, the games will have to be stopped temporarily." He hissed. I noticed a load of prefects walking in and escorting surviving people out, I half expected a prefect to come for me, but instead all of the Virtūte and the vampire king walked out.

-

"Well, well. You've managed to keep that a secret." The king laughed. I would of had a good comeback, but I had already been gagged by the vampires.

"So young. Shame her life will be hell from now on." He sighed, but obviously not caring. "Tom, escort her out of here." He demanded.

"Yes sir," Tom said, pulling me to my feet. A sack was put over my head, probably to keep my identity a secret. As I was lead out of the arena, all I could here was cheering from the crowds watching the games.
