Devon:
I hurried to get ready. Breakfast was going to be finished soon and I needed to leave. We decided earlier yesterday at the end of the contest committee meeting that we wouldn't meet up before breakfast and instead wait until after breakfast was finished before meeting up. I liked that idea. Too early to meet up before breakfast. I showered and put some clothes on and looked in my multiple body length mirrors connected to one another in the shape of half a hexagon so I could look at myself from three different angles at once. My hair looked disheveled and so I quickly ran my fingers through my hair hoping to tame it a little; didn't do much. I didn't have much time before the breakfast warning bell would ring, so I just shrugged, turned away and left my room to get some breakfast.
"Eh, I'll shave later," I said as left through my bedroom door while raising my arm in a "whatever" motion. I ended up walking to breakfast at a brisk pace. Why does breakfast always have to be at such a distasteful hour? I thought in despair.
I managed to get to the entryway to the dining hall only to meet up once again with my best friend Darren.
I walked up to Darren with one arm in a "hello" gesture.
"It's been a while, buddy. Where've you been, and how are you?" I asked him. He was looking towards the entryway and so he didn't see me. My words surprised him and he jumped and turned around to face me. He had a shocked look on his face.
"Y-Your M-M-Majesty-" he began, stuttering, but I held up my hand to cut him off. He shut up.
I bent forward with my fists on my hips and looked him straight in the eyes. "It's Devon, not Your Majesty," I condemned him. "How many times do I have to tell you?!" I was so sick of being called "Your Majesty" by my best friend. We've practically known each other since we were in diapers. I leaned my head back, closed my eyes and covered them with my right hand in a show of exasperation at this once again. I brought my hand back down from my face holding my hand in front of me in a way that might look like I might be waiting for currency to be given to me with my other hand still in a fist on my hip. My head bent downward once again and I once again looked him in the eyes with a desperate look on my face. "Come on, Darren! We've known each other since we were babies, and you didn't always used to call me, Your Majesty!" I felt like I had to beg him to stop calling me that title, but even then I don't think it would work.
Darren looked at me like he was assessing me and then had his neck placed like a vulture with his shoulders bent and his neck pressed forward and he pointed at me with his pointer finger saying, "Yes, that's true, but you're old enough to be acknowledged for your opinions and are that much more important now. You're the heir to the crown for goodness sake!" With this last part, he threw his arms up in the air. "Sure, I used to call you by your name, but that was when we were kids!"
I noticed that we were attracting a lot of attention by other people and looked around at all sides to find out how much damage was done. We were surrounded by others gawking. I tried to get Darren to calm down by moving my arms back and forth in front of me and telling him to try and quiet down.
"Will you please try to quiet it down?" I tried to placate him. I gestured around us, hoping to bring this to his attention. He didn't take the hint at first and just continued going on and on in his rant.
He moved his arm in a sweeping motion in front of him with his hand lifted up. "No, I will not quiet down!" He didn't seem to want to quiet down anytime soon. It was like he suddenly exploded. He wasn't usually like this. At least, not when he was around me. I wondered what got under his skin.
I finally had enough. "Hey! Take a chill pill, man! Look around you! I've been trying to silently let you know that people were watching, but you wouldn't shut up! What's got you so riled up, anyways?!" I folded my arms across my chest and my face turned dark. It was dark look versus dark look, since Darren had a dark look since he started on his rant.
He finally looked away from me and looked around us, seeing the circle of people gathered around us. The bell signaling the start of breakfast tolled.
His expression changed to one of shame and embarrassment. My arms changed position once more and had both fists on my hips. He looked back at me with scared eyes and then looked away. I let out a huff and he turned and left, the crowd separating before him to let him through.
I was still mad, but I took in a deep breath and let it out. I did this a couple times. It helped significantly cooling my temper.
This scene will probably be the main gossip and rumors for quite a while now. I entered the doorway and went to the dining hall to eat breakfast, the most important meal of the day.
Kaylee:
I got out of bed and got ready to leave for the library. I was holding the door open when I realized that I was still in my pajamas from the night before.
Silly, me, I thought. I brushed my hair, teeth, but didn't think of showering or changing clothes. I guess I'm still half-asleep. I closed the door back up and went to go and take a shower and grabbed a couple of towels for the bathroom. I stepped into the bathroom and took a shower as fast as I could. I came out of the shower and wrapped the towels around my hair and body. I towel dried my hair and brushed it once again. This time it looked nicer as a result. I looked in the mirror and nodded my head in approval. I turned around holding the towel to me with one hand and left the bathroom to go and find some clothes in my room.
I opened my wardrobe, but what I found when I opened it shocked me to my core. More of my things were ruined. I brought both of my hands to my face, fingers folded, palms pressed against my cheeks, and screamed.
It was a horror sight in my wardrobe. All of my clothes were torn to shreds, and there were things written on the inside of my wardrobe doors. They were all nasty things that were written. Things like, "Get lost, freak!" and "Nobody wants you" and more were written on the inside of my wardrobes doors that I wouldn't want to repeat. Some messages weren't as bad, but some were worse. I shut my wardrobe doors as fast and as hard as I possibly could and turned around quickly, leaning against my wardrobes doors with my hands folded behind my back. I leaned my head back and tried to take deep breaths, but they mostly came out as loud irregular gasps of breath. Tears started streaming down my face, but I wiped them away with the back of my fist as quick as they came. I decided to take inventory of the rest of my room. It didn't look like anything else was ruined and messed with this time. My eyes stopped when they spotted a pair of clothes laid out, but I didn't lay them out.
"Someone was in my room last night," I said deep in thought. It couldn't have been yesterday because I went to look in my wardrobe to look for pajamas to wear that night and my clothes and wardrobe were still intact. The truth of it hit me hard. Someone was out to get me. I was a target. I felt like there was a huge hole in my chest and a huge weight placed on top of me. I couldn't show weakness. That's what they wanted. They wanted to break me, but I wouldn't let them. I steeled myself. I promised myself that from then on, I wouldn't cry a single tear again. I had to be strong. Especially, here.
I walked briskly over to the pair of clothes that were still intact, laying on my desk. I was surprised it didn't bread apart from the weight of it. I carefully lifted them up, but as I lifted up the first piece of clothing I heard the wood on the upper part of the desk screech. I stopped.
That can't be good. I looked specifically at the desk and saw the wood slipping. My eyes showed my shock. I decided to just get it over with and picked up the clothes. In response the desk came super close to falling completely apart.
I thought it wise to go and move the lamp in case the desk broke and with it broke the lamp as well. I moved it and placed it on the floor beside my wardrobe. It was quite a relief, because right after I lifted up the lamp my desk fell completely apart.
Well, so much for that, I thought. I inspected the clothes. They were a pair of work clothes-my uniform.
I got dressed and went to breakfast since I didn't have time to go to the library now.
I went to the servants' kitchen and ate my breakfast in silence.
