Devon:
I was happy that Kaylee had finally woken up. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. She closed her eyes and went to sleep and I decided to let her continue sleeping, knowing that she had finally woken up. She must have been exhausted. I wouldn't know since I've never fainted before, but I could guess. I was really worried about her fainting like that. I wasn't exactly sure what happened. I wonder what happened. Maybe she got a bump on her head when she landed after I tackled her to the ground, maybe it was something different. Who knows? I don't even think the healers knew what was wrong with her to be honest.
I just sat by her bedside, watching her as she slept. She looked like an angel. A peaceful angel in her sleep. I wished her the best of dreams. I wanted her to be alright, and I was confident she now was.
Earlier I was pacing like crazy and questioning the healers about her condition. I guess this proves my feelings for her are genuine or that at least I cared deeply enough for her to be worried about her.
I heard her speak in her sleep just then. "Mother... Father... I miss you." She even whimpered a little. I was heartbroken. I didn't know anything about her life before she came here. I hoped things were okay at home.
She woke up about three hours later. I got up and offered her more of her drink from before. She drank some more of her water.
"Do you know what happened to me?" She asked.
"Not exactly," I answered, truthfully.
"Me neither."
We chatted a little more until she went back to sleep again, with me by her side holding her hand. I think that we became rather close during our time together in the infirmary. I thought so, because after she left the infirmary, we were like the best of friends.
Kaylee:
I was finally able to leave the infirmary. Their food was good, and I enjoyed Devon's company, but that place was just too stuffy for me, and I needed some fresh air.
I decided to go straight to the garden since I was told that the little girl now had someone else taking care of her. I wished I could keep her, but it was not to be. Maybe I could visit her sometimes.
I was surprised to see Devon already there with his sword and stance already in position, practicing swordsmanship. He probably just wanted some peace and quiet. I couldn't blame him. I watched for a little while and saw how good he was at it. This made me jealous. I wanted to be good at swordsmanship too, but I'm not so sure that was meant to be.
I walked towards him as quietly as possible, hoping to observe him more without letting myself be known. It was going pretty well until I accidentally stepped on a rose, crushing it with my foot. I gasped and gave a quick jump. I looked down at my feet and noticed that instead of stepping on a single rose, there were five roses. Just my luck!
"Shoot!" I whispered. I couldn't believe this.
I looked back up just then and saw Devon staring at me. He must have jerked his head towards the sound and saw me standing there, cursing the roses and their inability to keep me hidden. His sword was in front of him, barely off the ground, and he was standing in an almost lunge position.
"Kaylee?" He dropped his sword and walked towards me, closing the distance. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in the infirmary right now?"
I crossed my arms across my chest. "I was released not five minutes ago."
He looked dubious, then his expression turned into happiness. He hugged me and said, "Congratulations!" I couldn't see his face because of the hug, but I could imagine his face had the expression of relaxed happiness. I hugged him back, giving the same expression that I imagined he was giving at that exact moment. I didn't even think of how much I wanted to be as skilled of a swordswoman which would cause some jealousy flares to light up within me. I was just in the mood to be hugged.
I ended the hug and pushed him back with firm arms. An idea came to mind, but I wasn't really sure how much I was going to like it. I blurted with a smile and way too much enthusiasm, "Can you teach me to sword fight?" I probably wouldn't be able to surpass him in swordsmanship anyways since he was already so far ahead of me and would be the one teaching me if he accepted my on the spot proposal. I looked at him with a serious expression on my face and saw his expressions cross his face. He was waging an internal war in there. I could see it. He didn't want to have to fight me, but that's probably what would be entailed if he were to teach me. It looked like his expressions were changing from shock to pained to acceptance. He finally came to his answer. I saw it on his face. He agreed.
He nodded. "Okay." He took my hand and pulled me into the center of the garden where he was practicing his swordsmanship before I interrupted him. He looked around for something-I wasn't quite sure what though-until he picked it up.
My eyes opened in shock. It's a stick! A big, big stick! What am I supposed to do with this?! He came up to me and gave the stick a motion like he was about to wave a magic wand or something. I was about to ask him what I was supposed to do with this stick when he answered it for me. Maybe he saw an expression on my face that gave me away, or maybe it was something else.
"This is going to be your sword for the next long while." He handed it to me and I took it from his hands.
"Okay."
"Good. Now that that's settled, let's get you into position. Just do what I do." Then we got to work. He showed me the beginning stance and I followed suit. He looked me over and told me to make little changes. "Move your legs closer together. Lunge a little deeper." Eventually I got the hang of things. He showed me how to parry and feint, how to move my feet. That kind of thing.
We went on like this deep into the night. I was in so much trouble when I went back to my room. Well, to be more precise, it was when I was caught on my way to my room, trying to sneak through the castle.
Luck just wasn't on my side, but I didn't care. I was too tired to care. I knew I'd be assigned some sort of punishment that I'd have to deal with later on, but frankly, I couldn't care less at the moment. I just ended up plopping down on my bed and going out like a light waiting for the next day to finally come once again.
