Thirty-Six

January 3rd

Atlanta, GA

Robert "Meek" Williams

I held her in my arms as she shook and cried.

"She's gone Meek. She's never coming back."

While Nicki's mom was out in the sea, the ship she was on got caught in rough seas and you know the rest.....

I rubbed her back and kissed her forehead. Everybody came in the room and Nicki cried harder.

"Don't leave me Meek, please. You're all I have left."

"I'm not going anywhere baby girl. I promise."

3 Weeks Later

We walked in the church and Nicki wiped her tears.

"You alright?", I asked and she nodded.

We walked to the front and Nicki went up to the casket.

Onika "Nicki" Maraj

I touched her face and tears came down.

"I love you."

I saw Micaiah in my dad's arm and he was crying. He reached over for me and I took him.

"Mommy.", Micaiah said.

"I know, but she's in a better place babyboy. Can I take him with me?"

"Go ahead."

He kissed my forehead and I went to sit down next to Meek. He kept his head in my chest and I kissed his forehead. Meek put his hand on my mine and I smiled a little.

"Now I know Onika, Carol's daughter, has some things to say. Would you like to come up?"

I nodded and I gave Meek a sleeping Micaiah. I walked up to the mic and I wiped away my tears.

"18 years. 18 years since I've been born. 18 years since she birthed me. I always thought this would happen every time she got deployed.  I didn't want to see the guys at my door telling me my mom passed, but it happened. She fought for this country and I can't be more proud of her. Now she can rest in peace. Love you mommy."

My dad helped me walk down and I sat down next to Meek. I laid my head on his shoulder and he kissed my forehead.

We watched the casket being lowered into the ground and all you heard was sniffling.

"She's really gone Meek."

My dad & Meek rubbed my back and I just stared at the casket.

"Mommy!", Micaiah yelled.

He ran to the casket and Meek grabbed him.

"You can't go down in the ground lil man.", Meek said.

He wrapped his arms & legs around Meek and cried.

"We're going to get through this.", Robert said.

2 Weeks Later

Robert "Meek" Williams

"What the fuck man!"

I just got off the phone with Nicki's dad and he said he thinks it's best for Nicki to come and move in with him.

"I'm trying to study and you're making a whole bunch of noise.", Nicki said walking in.

"My bad Nic. Just stressed."

"Don't know why. I'm not home schooled anymore and you're not the principal. Thought those two stressed you out the most."

I shot a look at her and she stepped back then walked towards me and started massaging my shoulders.

"Your dad is taking me to court."

"For what?"

"He doesn't trust you with me due to the incident that happened."

"We were just at the funeral with each other. I can't with him."

She shook her head and I sighed.

"I'm not going to let him take you. I promise that."

I pulled her so she was looking at me and I kissed her forehead.

"Mama Kathy is on her way.", she said.

"Alright. You going to be downstairs with me or upstairs?"

"The boys coming over too?"

"Yeah, it's going to be a mini family reunion."

"I'll be downstairs with y'all."

"Go put on some clothes."

I watched her walk out the room and I ran my hand over my face. My phone started ringing and I answered it.

"Yo."

"I'm not any of the boys Robert. Come answer the door.", Kathy said.

I hung up and laughed. Going downstairs, Nicki ran past me and opened the door. She squealed and I smiled. Everybody started coming in the house and went in the living room. I sat down on the couch and Nicki sat on Kathy's lap.

"What's up everybody.", Deen said walking in.

Omelly sat down next to me and I slapped him up.

"We are coming together because Nicki's dad is threatening me with taking her away from me. He said I'm unfit to watch her cause of the incident that happened last month."

"We're not letting that happen Meek.", Tak said.

"I already know that's not happening."

"Do you need the lawyer?", Kathy said and I nodded.

"I need a couple of you guys to watch Nicki when she goes to school and comes back."

"Tak and I can watch her in the mornings.", Omelly said.

"Chino and I will watch her in the afternoon.", Deen said.

"Aight then it's settled.", Kathy said.

I looked over at Nicki and she was on the edge of going to sleep with my mom rubbing her back.

"Does she ever sleep?", Na asked and I shook my head.

"Only when she's near me, but I get home late most of the times so it affects her big time."

"Poor baby."

I picked her up and sat back down on the couch. She tightened her grip on my shirt and closed her eyes.

"A whole bunch of stuff is going on and it's affecting her the most. I wish I could take the stress away."

"You can.", Omelly said.

Everyone laughed and I laughed shaking my head.

"Nah I can't do that. I want her in a happy state."

I looked down at Nicki, who was sleeping peacefully. I kissed her forehead and she kissed my cheek.

"I love you Onika."

"I love you more Meek."
