I'D SEEN FRANCESCA CAVIGLIA CRY before, quite a few times actually.

I had dated her for a solid three years which were the darkest years of her life. We only broke up five months ago, when I started dating her stepsister Violetta Castillo.

Francesca hadn't really talked to me in the last five months, which I couldn't tell if I was glad or upset about. It was good to finally detach myself from the drama that is Francesca Caviglia's life. But on the other hand, she was the first person who saw me as Leon Vargas, not Shay Vargas' disappointment of a brother.

But recently Francesca had gone off the rails, skipping school, smoking, and she got a computer genius to change her report card from an F to an A, not to mention the building she set on fire. The building was partly my fault, that was the day I broke up with Francesca after realising I had fallen in love with her stepsister Violetta who had come to Tanberry two weeks prior.

And today, after five months of cold glares and pushing shoulders in the hallway, Francesca Caviglia was sitting on the thickest and firmest branch of the tree that hung over my garage.

Her shoulder length hair was haphazard around her, her clothes a bit muddy and her pants were torn at the bottom like she had ran through a filed of barbed wire to get here. Her face was messed with smudged mascara, but you could see the red in her eyes. She had been crying. She was still crying.

I hesitantly put my hands on the branch, pulling myself up to sit next to her a comfortable distance separating us of course. I played with my fingers, and noticed hers. They were muddy like her clothes, and I think I saw a few traces of red smudged across her palms.

"Leon, they hate me. I messed up, I seriously messed up," Francesca says, turning to look at me.

"What's new?" I roll my eyes.

I regretted it instantly. I saw the hurt flash across her face, and she looked down and sobbed harder.

God, what's wrong with me?

How could I be so inconsiderate when I could see that this was really hurting her. Maybe something serious had actually happened, and here I was being sarcastic. Francesca cried and I pulled on my shirt. I hated the sound of girls crying since I just never knew what to do. I cautiously rub her back.

She buries her face in my chest probably soaking my shirt. I should've pulled away from that instantly, after all my ex girlfriend was crying into my chest. But I had also just given her one of the harshest responses in possibly a very hard time in her life. I felt guilty.

"They hate me. They seriously hate me. I mean they've been on a thread for a long time, and now it snapped. They hate me Leon," Francesca cries.

"I'm sure they don't," I say.

Well that's better.

"What happened Francesca?" I ask her gently.

"So you know that I've been grounded right?" She asks, and I nod. She was grounded for three months because of the aforementioned building.

"And I was studying with a friend last night even though I didn't tell Mum because I really did want to try and do well in that History test, but I fell asleep and I didn't have a phone -of course I'm grounded- and when I ran back this morning, Mum and German were so angry. They went on and on about how reckless I was, and that I wasn't acting smart and why couldn't I be more like Violetta so I ran,"

I could tell that it kind of was her fault. She shouldn't have gone to a friend whilst she was grounded. It was irresponsible of her. But on the other hand it's not like she could tell them that she was studying because she didn't have a phone.
