CHAPTER ONE
TWO AND HALF MONTHS LATER
ELAYNA
“We are here!?!” Selena shrieked so loudly I almost dropped the box that I had just gotten out of her car’s trunk. Wincing at the ringing in my ears I put the boxes back down to check the time on my phone.
08:57am
How Selena has energy like this, at this hour in the morning after our all night drive I will never understand.
Just then I notice Faith walking towards me, “I have no idea how she’s like this after our drive,” she says echoing my exact thoughts as she picked up another box to carry.
“That’s exactly what I was thinking,” I mumble whilst bending slightly to pick up the box I put down a mere second ago. Just as I was about to follow Faith inside the building an unfamiliar voice said from behind me, “That’s terrible posture, you’re gonna have a sore back tomorrow if you keep that up.”
I turned to see a girl who stood at about my height of 5’1, with slightly tan skin and highlighted strawberry blonde hair that ran to just below her shoulders. She had the most captivating warm brown coloured eyes that she emphasized with some mascara. She was in a plain pink t-shirt and sweatpants.
“Yeah? How would you know? You look slightly too young to be a physician,” I said smiling at her, my tone playful.
“But I do wanna major in physiotherapy, I’m a soon-to-be freshman here at Princeton,” she said then glanced at my boxes, “Just like you it seems,” she added with a smirk.
Grateful that she did not seem like the overly sensitive or silly bitchy college girls I’d heard so much about, I smiled at her genuinely and for a second time placed my box back in the car trunk to extend a hand to this girl.
“I’m Elayna.”
She shook my hand and replied “Hannah,” then froze as if realizing something important.
“Shut up! Elayna Maynard?” She asked hopefully, still holding onto my hand.
“The same one,” I replied hesitantly.
“Dude we’re roommates!” She squealed, and then proceeded to put me in a bone crushing hug, for a tiny girl she sure does have quite a grip on her. “Gosh I’m so glad I didn’t end up with some typical whiny girl,” she said finally letting go of me.
Equally as grateful I gave her a huge smiled and said, “So you gonna help me with my boxes roomy?”
“Gladly,” she replied, walking to the car and taking a box with her she added, “Follow me; I’ll show you to our dorm.”
“To Hogwarts it is!” I yelled, causing her to laugh.
Walking in a comfortable silence with Hannah, I smiled to myself, now Faith and Selena can finally stop feeling to guilty that they are rooming together, instead of one of them rooming with me.
“Did I hear you screaming about Hogwarts?” Selena asked snapping me out of my thoughts and back to reality.
“Yep,” I replied with a huge grin on my face.
“Share the joke?” Faith asked appearing out of nowhere next to Selena.
“No joke. But I did find my roommate,” I said nonchalantly.
“What?!” They both shrieked.
“Hi I’m Hannah Scott, Elayna’s new roommate,” Hannah said putting her box down in front of a door that I was assuming to be our dorm and walked back to where my friends were cornering me.
“Hello,” Faith and Selena say in unison shuffling slightly to make space for Hannah to stand in.
“Are you guys friends from back home?” Hannah asked.
“Yup,” I, Faith and Selena replied, popping the ‘p’.
“You here on your own or do you already know a few people from high school?” Selena asked looking at Hannah.
“I know a few people but not many. Like most of my close friends all go to different colleges. But I saw a couple of kids I had a few classes with back in high school a few days ago when I moved in,” Hannah replied. “So where is home?” She questioned us.
“Chi town baby!” Faith replied before any of us could.
“Oh.My.Gosh! Me too” Hannah screamed. “What high school did you all go to?”
“Hills High School” I answered, “What about you?”
“I graduated from Fortune High, which is like miles away from Hills High. No wonder we never saw each other,” Hannah mused.
While Hannah, Selena and Faith discussed what college boys would be like, I zoned out thinking about how I really wanted to get all the boxes out of Selena’ s car and get some breakfast.
“You want to get some breakfast now?” Hannah asked me.
“What? Did I say that out loud?” I mumbled.
“No you didn’t say anything out loud,” Faith replied, “but you do look hungry,” and as if in agreement with them my stomach grumbled at that precise moment, causing us all to laugh.
“So how’d you wanna do this?” Hannah asked, “Get breakfast now or get all the boxes up here first. I could get some of the guys I meet already to come help us.”
“The extra help would be awesome,” I answered.
“Are they cute?” Selena asked. I refrained from rolling my eyes at her, only she could think about that this early in the morning after a long drive and before breakfast.
“Very,” Hannah drawled looking up from the phone she had pulled out from her front pocket and wiggled her eyebrows, and then went back to texting.
Soon enough we heard Hannah’s phone vibrating and she let us know that ‘her guys’ can help us for about an hour before they have to get to their morning practice. We all nodded grateful for the extra help and walked down to the parking lot in a comfortable silence. Selena then remember she had a granola bar in the car which after searching for in her glove compartment finally found and handed over to me, while Faith and Hannah from what I could hear discussed something about parties and outfits.
I went and sat inside Selena’s Range Rover’s passenger side seat and left the door wide open for the rest of the girls to crowd around me, restricting my view to just them. I was just about to cut into their conversation when someone hollered in an amused tone “I hope ya’ll are planning on helping us carry the boxes”.
Oh.My.Gosh.
Even though I couldn’t see him, I recognised that voice instantly, but why was he here?
