CHAPTER SIX
ADAM
I saw her shoulders instantly relaxed as she registered my voice.
“In your dreams Lima,” she said as she turned around and graced me with her infamous smirk. I chuckled at her slightly breathy tone, clearly still suppressing the adrenaline that had been aroused from her fear a few seconds ago. I quirked my eyebrow as I nodded my head towards her drink.
“Designated driver?” I asked her. She looked at me like I had spoken to her in mandarin, “You’re drinking J2O genius,” I explained.
“Oh,” she managed before she looked away trying and miserably failing to hide her blushing cheeks, “Nope, I just don’t drink. Never have and I never will,” she stated. I was just about to ask her something completely random, sensing that she did not want to talk about why she never drank any alcohol, when Vanessa Carlton’s ‘A thousand miles’ started playing. Remembering the White Chick’s scene with this song I started laughing and put my cup down.
“How did you know? I love this song,” she said in a fake low male’s voice.
“Terrible,” I said laughing, “Terry Crews sounds nothing like that.”
She smacked my arm with what I think she thought was hard and glared at me, “I’m sorry I didn’t realise I was in the presence of the voice imitation police.” She feigned being serious but the twitch at the corner of her lips said otherwise.
“Dance with me?” I asked her as I extended my hand to her. She raised an eyebrow at me, “Well you clearly love the movie, so how can you not honour this song by dancing to it?”
“Sure, but I’m not going to hook up with you,” she nonchalantly added as she took my hand.
“I didn’t say anything about hooking up with you,” I replied as I turled her away from me then back to me with her back to my front, leaning down closer to her ear I added, “Did I?”
She shook her head as she repositioned herself so she was now facing me again. She cleared her throat before she tiptoed up to me and I bent my head down and turned to face the other side so she could whisper in my ear, “I just wanted to make that clear so you don’t think anything different.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it Maynard,” I smirked down at her still dancing before I began to sing in a slightly high tone of voice. “Cause everything’s so wrong and I don’t belong-”
“Living in your precious memories,” Elayna cut in wiggling her eyebrows at me, “The chorus is next do the Terry Crews face when you sing it,” she hastily added. I nodded my head grinning at her as I let her out of my grasp.
“Cause I need you and I still miss you and now I wonder...” We both sang loudly as we faced each other, so incredibly out of tune, while shaking our heads quickly the way Crews did in the movie. Neither of us could carry on singing as we bent over laughing.
“You’re all right you know Adam,” she said when she could finally stand up without laughing. I smirked at her, before smiling as what she had just said registered fully.
“I believe that’s the first time you’ve called me Adam,” I exclaimed.
“Yeah?” She questioned.
