CHAPTER THIRTEEN

ELAYNA

“Puffin, how much clothes do you plan on bringing?” Adam asked me, his voice muffled by the three boxes that he was carrying stacked up on one another in his arms, completely covering his face.

“Not too much, I mean I can leave the party outfits here since I probably won’t be having anytime for parties for a while and even if I do go to one, I’ll just get dressed here. So that just leaves me with my regular clothes, work ones, workout gear and my pyjamas,” I told him ticking off each category with my fingers, although it was a pointless gesture since he couldn’t see me.

“What? No underwear, Puffin?” Adam asked me as he put the boxes down momentarily on my dorm bed. Despite him showing me a side of him I hadn’t even known existed just last night, Adam seemed to possess rubber band qualities, as he’d snapped right back to his old sweet but perverse self this morning.

Just the way I liked him.

“Perverted jerk,” I muttered as I turned around to inspect the room for any essentials that I should be bringing with me.

“Seriously though, no underwear? Not that I’m complaining that is.”

“Shut up,” I replied to him my voice going a decibel higher then I intended for it to go as I tried to muffle my embarrassment, “Not that it’s any of your business but I’ve already packed plenty of underwear, so quit worry about that.”

Adam just laughed at that. He quickly picked up the boxes he had put down earlier and hid behind them, using them as a shield from my death glare. Skylar had already taken the first few boxes down to the car, fussing and whining the whole time. I had given him more than enough time to get over it, with one finally sweep of the room I figured it was time we joined him.

“So what’d you have planned for the rest of your day?” I asked Adam as I held the door to my dorm hallway open for him.

“Well after I’m done being your servant, I’ve got to get down to the courts for some late afternoon practice session with the Coach, he’s going to be assigning us our positions,” he told me as he walked past me, “What about you?” He questioned.

“I’ve got a three-to-seven shift at the gym. Then after that I’m planning on training with Matty. Since I’m here on a boxing scholarship but I don’t want to compete, Matty’s managed to get me on the fund raising committee, basically that just means I’ve got to participate in very laid back and friendly matches whenever contributors to the boxing fund visit. Which isn’t often apparently, so it’s perfect since that allows for me to work as many shifts as I want,” I told him.

I couldn’t believe my luck when I’d heard Matty’s voicemail this morning. Things were finally beginning to look up for me. I had changed my bank pins, the manual and online ones, so my mother could no longer get into my account. I could already tell I would enjoy staying with Adam and Skylar and my girls were planning on coming over in the next few days.

Fate was finally putting things into their rightful places for me.

“How’d you really get that bruise?” Adam asked me, out of the blue, as we walked down the stairs. We still had a few flights left when he spoke so we weren’t near the car yet.

“What?”

“You can’t answer a question with a question, Puffin. That’s one of the rules of the game,” Adam replied before he repeated his question. I looked at him, or rather the boxes, in utter bewilderment.
