CHAPTER FIFTEEN

ELAYNA

       Beep. Beep. Beep.

I rolled over to the other side hoping, as I buried myself deeper into the pillows and covers, to muffle out that annoying and incessant beeping sound. Still not satisfied I rolled over some more when I suddenly felt myself falling off the bed.

“Whoa, Puffin,” Adam said chuckling as he grabbed onto my waist, but my hands and feet still dangled off the edge of the bed, so he hauled me to the middle of it.

“Thanks,” muttered as I looked away slightly embarrassed, feeling my cheeks heat up I covered my face with my hands.

Everything after that happened so fast.

I felt the mattress concave down on either side of me, but with my face covered I couldn’t see why, slowly lowering my hands from my face I kept my eyes shut, took in a deep breath and peeked at my surroundings with one eye open. When both my eyes suddenly shot open.

Adam Lima was hovering above me.

He was supporting all of his weight on his hands that were on either side of my head so I couldn’t have felt that he was above me as he wasn’t touching me. Just as I was about to push him off me and yell at him for being a weirdo, I pulled my eyes away from his shoulders and looked at his face.

My breathing hitched as I saw the way that he was looking at me. He melted my heart with that breathtaking smile of his that always put his gorgeous dimples out on display. I worked my way up to his eyes and felt my breathing stop all together when I saw the unabashed passion in them. But then my heart dropped as memories of yesterday came crashing back to me.

“I’m not like Barbie, Adam,” I breathed out barely able to speak as I tried to get my heart rate under control. He looked confused for a split second before understanding washed over his features, just as he was about to speak I put my finger on his lips, silencing him, “I can’t do this,” I said gesturing my hand towards him then back to myself, “I don’t do casual,” I said slowly.

Breathing in deeply through my nose I mentally scolded myself for getting so emotional over something that probably meant nothing to him. I had expected him to laugh at my overly sensitive, heavy response and roll off me. Instead he surprised me by pinching his eyebrows and starring straight into my eyes, his gaze unwavering as he stayed exactly where he was.

“I don’t want us to ever have a casual relationship, Puffin,” he told me as moved a strand of hair to behind my ear, “God if only you knew what you do to me.”

“You want us to get together because you think I’m what? Hot?” I asked disgustedly as I felt the lump in my throat grow in size, my tone a lot harsher then I’d intended.

Obviously that harshness of my voice didn’t seem to have deterred Adam from saying what he wanted to say, “Puffin, why’d you keep going there with me?” He asked me as he looked at nothing but my eyes, without giving me a chance to answer that he continued, “Look I know that I don’t exactly have the reputation of a monk, but I want you to understand that you’re different,” he breathed in deeply closing his eyes momentarily, “When I said ‘if only you knew what you do to me’ I meant it but not in a physical way, well yes in a physical way too, but,” he struggled to get his wording right as he took another deep breath, “Puffin, I’ve never done this before,” he said.
