Leah
I waked downstairs to see my cousin Leroy and my sister Laura downstairs helping my mom with Thanksgiving dinner. I smiled and sniffed the air because the food was smelling just right.
"So what time is dinner gonna be ready?" I asked standing at the counter.
"In like twenty minutes." My mom said.
"Is there any pound cake?" I asked.
Leroy laughed. "Cravings kicking in missy?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes. "So funny Lee-Lee!" I said and he grunted. He hates when anyone calls him that name.
"I made pound cake and red velvet cake." Laura said.
"Hm sounds so good." I said licking my lips.
"I just need to finish adding the frosting to the red velvet cake." She added.
"Vanilla frosting right?!" I asked with wide eyes.
My mom laughed and shook her head. "Man you about to be stuffing your face tonight." She said.
"I might be just a little bit hungry." I said shrugging and getting some OJ out of the fridge. I poured some in a cup and took a large gulp.
"A little? You'll be on your fourth plate while everyone else is on their second." Leroy retorted.
Everyone laughed except for me. "Maybe you could skip the second plate." I said walking around to him and patting his stomach.
Everyone laughed except for him. "I'm not fat!" He said annoyed.
I laughed harder. "It's okay Lee-Lee" Laura said which made everyone laughed even harder.
"Well at least my girl like my stomach. I don't hear any complaints from her." He said.
Me and Laura made a face. And my mom rolled her eyes.
"Y'all come set this table and let's get dinner started." My mom said.
We put the utensils and plates down on the table. My mom calls this her "holiday decorations" and was very serious about them. We started bringing out the food and finally sat down 25 minutes later.
"Who wants to say the prayer this time?" My mom asked.
Everyone looked around avoiding the question.
"Go ahead Leah, you can do it." She said and I mentally cursed at her in my head for putting me on the spot.
"Dear God, we thank you for allowing us to see another day and another holiday. We thank you for blessing us with this amazing food we're about to eat. We ask that you bless those that are less fortunate around this time. We thank you for everything that we've been through and have yet to go through. In Jesus name, amen." I prayed.
"Amen." Everyone said.
We all started grabbing at the different dishes sitting in front of us and piling it on to our plates. I guess Leroy was right, I definitely did stuff my face - definitely don't regret though!
A|N: Short chapter I know! But I needed to update. Next chapter will be longer and better and yes it definitely has drama. You'll get to see Abel's true intentions - Stay tuned!
