-Louis POV-

Roxy and I finally made it down to the Dianne's house. To my surprise, it was like driving in to never land. As in the forest kind. It felt so medieval. I loved it. When we parked the car. We got out and took out our bags. The house was white with a forest green roof and it had a tarnish coloured barn in the backyard. There was fields that just went on and on. So this is where she lived her childhood..

"Roxy!"

I heard a squeaky voice scream as I looked up to see Roxy hugging a little small old lady with gray curly hair.

"This must be Louis. It's so nice to meet you. I'm Roxy's grandmother, Jem."

She gave me a hug and we greeted and small talked about how the ride was and everything like that.

"So, you guys will obviously stay in Roxy's room for the night. But no shenanigans please.. We have guests."

Roxy and I laughed as we entered the house. You could hear Christmas music coming from inside and the house looked so old-school.

We went up the steep stairs as we entered Roxy's room, her walls were filled up with posters of actors (including Ryan Gosling)

Me and Roxy fell down on her bed,

"So, what do you think?"

She asked me as she took my hand,

"It's nothing I've ever seen before but I love the experience of it. I love your grandma too."

I said as I got up and looked around. I saw an art project that Roxy made last year...

-flashback-

I was walking down the halls once I saw a table with a bunch of sculptures on it. They were all plain with butterflies and water... One sculpture stood out. It was a black box with neon colours splattered all over it with broken pieces of a wire person. The statue was called falling too pieces. I looked for the name and was surprised to see that it was Roxy's. I looked at the right side of the box and it said,

Find the secret meaning of this sculpture.

I never could figure out what it was.

-flashback over-

"So, what is the secret about this sculpture?"

I asked her as she got closer I me and wrapped her arms around me,

"It's what we promised just this year."

She said, as I looked down to her wrists.

"Wait, so after all of this time of me wondering what it was about. It turns out to be... You were falling to pieces basically."

She nodded her head as I looked at shattered mirror pieces around the broken pieces of the person, there was also positive and negative words on each side,

"I-I cut myself for the first time with the mirror piece that I broke from the mirror pieces on here."

She said as she shook a little bit, it was weird but she told me that if you tell her something like you broke her arm. She could feel it like as if someone just broke her arm. It's weird but cool at the same time.

"Wait, before we go back downstairs. You need to tell me, what was making you fall to pieces also. There's always a reason for everything."

She sat me down on the edge of her bed,

"We've already talked about this Louis. But I was falling to pieces because I couldn't have you. I cut myself because at first, I wanted you to feel something for me. Anything would have been fine then you feeling nothing about me. Then it became a habit of numbing away everything."

She rested her head on my shoulder,

"I'm going to make sure that never happens to you again."

I lifted her chin up and kissed her crimson red lips.

"Come on, let's go help your grandma with the cookies before everyone comes."

We ran downstairs laughing and helped Jem cook everything,

-Jem's POV-

Everyone was finally all here for Christmas. My sons, Kurt, Shawn and my daughter, Katy were all here. My grandchildren, Bobby, Tasha, Stephen, Alyssa, Roger, Shana and Roxy were all here. What a wonderful Christmas that we all are going to have.

I was talking to Shawn's wife Johanna in the kitchen as me, Katy and Kurt's girlfriend Brianna were cooking the meal.

I looked in the other room to see Louis joking around with Tasha's boyfriend and Stephen about something. Roxy was laughing with Shana, Tasha and Alyssa. What a family.

---------------------------------------------------------

As we were waiting for dinner to be ready. Katy, Johanna and Brianna went to catch up with everyone while I rested in the kitchen. I saw Louis come in and sit down next to me. He was a charming and good looking young boy.

"Hiya Jem."

He said as he put his hand on mine,

"So how's everything going for you these days? Roxy has told me a lot about you."

He said as his charming blue eyes sprakled,

"These past few days are hard. I've been getting headaches a lot. I've been feeling dizzy more often than I used to, but I'm so happy to see everyone together again."

I smiled as Louis smiled at me in return.

"If you ever need help, I can give you a backrub."

He said as we both laughed,

"I'll be fine boy. Go talk to Roxy's cousins. Get to know them better."

I said as I patted his back,

"Actually, I was wondering If I could ask you something?"

He tilted his forehead,

"Sure go ahead."

"How was it like? Taking care of Roxy and Roger while they were little?"

I never thought that any of Roxy's boyfriends would ever ask me about her childhood. I guess I thought wrong.

"It was good and bad in a way. Roxy and Rogers mother was terrible to them. They starved for days. They didn't have proper clothes that didn't have holes and rips in them. They always smelled like cigarette smoke. They hardly went to school in elementary. I am so glad that I was there for them when they needed somebody. In high school, Roxy became a handful. She started wearing make-up, she dated this boy named Shake..? Was it shake?"

I don't remember what his name was.. Oh wait!

"It was Shane! Ever since they went out. Roxy became angrier than ever and had to rebel like any teenage girl would. Afterwards everything went well."

Louis nodded as our hands were together. He is such a nice boy,

"Wow, I can't imagine what it would be like to have to raise my own kids, kids. But you are a strong woman. You did a great job."

Hearing that come from Roxy's boyfriend made me smile. It makes me feel like I actually did a good job for once in my life. I never wanted them to have a horrible life.. Their father didn't want it either.

"I'm sorry for blabbing on like that Louis."

I apologized for boring the poor soul,

"You weren't blabbing, it was interesting. Now can you tell me about your life here and how you met Roxy's grandfather?"

I told him about how when I was about 18 years olds. I met her grandfather Rolland when I came down from Montreal to red valley and we got married when I was 19 and I moved down here and we had our kids right away. I told him about how loaded with animals are farm was from geese to goats to kittens. Afterwards when my 4 children were older. I told him all about Roxy's mother. How she met her father at rehab and they got married and had kids and divorced 3 years after and fought over money and cheating.

I told him more about the good days we had and tried to ignore the bad ones. Louis was actually interested in everything. When Roxy brought Shane here. He didn't really want to hear anything. This is kind of weird to be honest, but it's nice to have someone listen to me blab on about the old days.

"What a crazy life you had there."

We both laughed as I got to know Louis better also. I know that this boy right here is the one for my granddaughter. Not because I like him. His personality is so much like hers. So caring and supportive.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

We were all opening presents, everyone had opened theirs except for Roxy's from Louis.
She took the big red wrapped box from me and ripped open the paper, she saw a bunch of wrapping paper inside, she searched inside the box and found a little white box.. She put a hand over her mouth as Louis took it from her, he opened the little ring box.

"So I have an announcement to make about this ring. It is not an engagement ring because we are obviously too young to get married, but. This is a promise ring. I promise you, Roxanne, that I will never let anything hurt you. I will be by your side until the end. Until the next ring."

He slipped the beautiful silver band on her finger as she jumped in to his arms and kissed him. All of us cheered at how romantic they were. It was so perfect, it was like a scene from one of those movies I watched on tv.

We went on to dinner and Louis was a big hit with everybody.

As everyone left to go home and Roger went to spend the night with his girlfriend. Louis and Roxy said their goodbyes to everyone and looked around the messy house,

"I'm going to clean up, you two head on to bed."

Roxy and Louis came closer to me,

"Jem, you look tired. Go get some rest and Roxy and I will clean up this mess."

What a gentlemen, I can say it now. I love him too, I want them to stay together 100%

Louis started to walk me up the stairs in to my bedroom. He waited outside until I was done changing and tucked me in to my bed with a glass of water and my big fluffy blanket that they gave me as a present.

"Goodnight Jem. Sleep tight."

He kissed my forehead and closed the door gently.
