Nick

I was in the car, in the passenger seat, more specifically, because it was Demi's turn to drive, on our road trip to Big Bear. We were heading there for a romantic getaway to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary. As I listened to Demi sing along to a song on the radio, I couldn't help but smile. My life, with her, was amazing & even though our family kind of freaked when we announced we'd gotten married in Vegas four years ago, they eventually saw what Demi & I had seen. We were meant for each other & we were happy.

I checked the navigation on my phone & saw we were heading in the right direction, so I sat back & listened to her sing. I joined her at one point & she rolled her eyes at me, when she realized I was trying to sing louder than her. I chuckled, glancing at her, then slipped my hand in between her thighs, while she kept her eyes on the road.

After a few songs, Demi got tired of singing & turned the volume down on the radio. "Are you hungry? I'm kind of getting hungry. How much longer until we get there?" She asked, putting her hand on top of mine that was, now, resting on her thigh.

I looked at my phone, that I had put in the holster on the dashboard. "We still have an hour to go. We can stop & get lunch if you want."

"If we still lived in L.A. we'd be there by now." Demi commented, with a sigh.

I leaned my head back & laughed. "You regret moving to Santa Barbara now?"

Demi threw a side eyed glance my way, then smiled as she shook her head. "No, not at all. We agreed that it was the best place, in California, to raise a family, & it was still close to our families & friends. When I got promoted to the office in Ventura, it was like a sign. And we are all about signs. I just miss L.A. sometimes."

"We're lucky we both have high paying jobs so we can afford to live in Santa Barbara

"I know how lucky we are. We're also lucky that my mom was able to babysit for us, this week." Demi said, then sighed again, but this time she sounded sad.

"You miss her already don't you?" I asked, giving her fingers a squeeze.

Demi nodded, frowning. "It's the first time I've been away from her, for longer than a day since she came into our lives."
