"HIS PULSE is 380," Clarke whispered as she held Jasper's wrist

"HIS PULSE is 380," Clarke whispered as she held Jasper's wrist. Marley held her father's wristwatch up for the blonde to see. With her other hand, she dabbed a dirty rag across Jasper's forehead as he groaned in pain.

"Shut that kid up!" A voice echoed from the lower level of the drop ship, followed by a loud banging against the trapdoor.

Another voice boomed, "Quiet!" It sounded vaguely like Tate, and Marley shuddered at the thought. She wasn't sure what he'd do if Jasper carried on crying out. She knew what he'd capable of before - and that was when he had been a mere fifteen years old.

"Don't listen to them. You're gonna make it through this, okay?" Clarke spoke in a hushed, reassuring tone. "Promise," She finished.

Marley wasn't entirely sure what to say. She wasn't a doctor and she definitely didn't have an applicable knowledge of medicine, so she couldn't reassure Jasper that he was going to live like Clarke could. Because she wasn't qualified enough to.

"Can he just die already?" Yet another voice echoed from down below.

Clarke scoffed and stood to her feet. "I'm gonna get some clean water." She smoothed her hands down over her trousers, brushing the dirt from her knees. She directed her gaze towards Marley who was cautiously holding onto Jasper's shaking hand. "Keep an eye on him."

The brunette nodded and the blonde shot both her and Monty - who was sat in the corner of the deck, fiddling with one of the wristbands - a small smile before descending downwards onto the lower level.

Marley heard Monty shift a little and looked over to see him staring at his best friend, a forlorn expression on his face as he bit his lip.

"I'm sure he'll be fine, Monty. Clarke knows what she's doing," Marley uttered quietly. Though she felt comfortable around the boy now, she still didn't quite have the confidence to speak louder than at a level only just above a whisper.

Monty crept across the floor towards Jasper and Marley and set himself down on the metal next to them. He sighed and wrapped his arms around his knees, which were tucked up against his chest. He rested his chin on top of them.

"He's like a brother to me," Monty murmured. He met Marley's gaze; the brunette could vaguely make out tears on the rim of his eyes, threatening to spill out down his cheeks. He blinked them away as his gaze flickered to look down at his pained best friend.
