Chrom

We've been walking for a few hours now. It's dark and the bugs are starting to come out. I saw my sister stop walking and the others and I do the same.

"I told you - it's getting dark already! Ech! And now the bugs are out! Noisy, disgusting bugs that buzz around and crawl all over and bite you when- Agh! Won goph in mah mouph! Blech! Ptooey!" Lissa complained, spitting at the ground.

I laughed and turn to see Anna covering her mouth in a fruitless attempt to hide her giggles. It's really cute. Wait, what was I doing? Ah! Right, Lissa is complaining. We should probably make camp...

"Aw, come now, Lissa. Hardship builds character. Want to help me gather firewood?" I asked my sister.

"Tbht! Tbht! Yeeeeuck! I think I swallowed it... I'll pass on finding firewood, thanks. I think I've built QUITE enough character for one day!" Lissa pouted. Just then, the silence is broken by a low growling followed by Anna blushing and placing a hand on her stomach. She's kinda cute when she blushes... Wait. What am I thinking?

"We should probably think about food. I don't know about you, but I'm starving," Anna said.

"Yes, I should think a little hunting and gathering is in order. Now, who wants to clear a campsite?" Frederick asked.

About an hour later, we have a campsite cleared, a fire burning, and freshly hunted game in front of us.

"Mmm... It's been too long since I last had bear meat. Delicious! What's wrong, Lissa? Dig in." I said to my sister.

Lissa pushed her meat away. "Pass! Gods, couldn't you spear us an animal normal people eat for once? I mean, come on! Who eats bear?! You're meddling with the food chain. Right, Anna?" Lissa turned to her new friend. "Uh, Anna?"

Anna was quickly scarfing down her meat, not listening to my sister. At least SOMEONE appreciates my tastes! Even her unrefined way of eating is cute. Wait, what?

"I suppose a person would enjoy just about anything after not eating for days..." Lissa sighed.

"Just eat it, Lissa. Meat is meat."

"Since when does meat smell like old boots?! Wait, I take the back-boots smell better!" Lissa pouted.

"Every experience makes us stronger, milady. Even those we don't enjoy," Frederick said. I don't see you eating anything...

Lissa snorted. "Really? Then why don't I see YOU eating, Frederick?" Lissa stole the words straight from my mouth.

Frederick looked away nervously. "Me? Oh, well... I'm not hungry. I... I had a large lunch! Yes, quite." he answered quickly.

Lissa rolled her eyes. "Yeah right, Frederick!"

...

Some time passed, and I couldn't really bring myself to sleep. It almost seems like my whole life is about change... I wonder why?

I looked around. Lissa was lying on her side, sleeping. Frederick was doing the same, lying on his back and his arms resting behind his head. Then, my gaze is shifted to Anna.

She's contently curled on her side, fast asleep, her head resting on her small hands. Her light brown hair fell in front of her face with each slow, relaxed breath. Gods, it's hard to believe that just a few hours ago, she was fiercely fighting beside me, and now...

I don't think I'll ever truly get her, I never really was able to do that with women. I take a moment to look at her better now that she's stationary. Her purple robes closely hug her body like a blanket. She shifts a little in her sleep, trying to get more comfortable. Ha look at us, I tell her there are better places to take a nap than on the ground and here we are... I think, Smiling.

She's certainly strange, I'll give her that. But I believed her, no matter how strange her story was. It must be horrible, not having any memory about you or your past. I can't imagine waking up someday and not remember Lissa or Emm... Gods, I can't imagine what she's going through. I hope I'm doing the right thing, taking her in like this. Introducing her to a war... I sighed. She looks so innocent asleep like this... I wonder if she has any family looking for her. A mother and father or any siblings that are wondering where she is. Well, she looks about my age... maybe a year younger... so it wouldn't surprise me if she was on her own.

I can't wait to get to know her... er, well, help her get to know herself. Figure out what kind of person she was or will be. It's almost as if she was given another chance to build a new life... I seriously wonder what her life was like? She must have had some kind of training if she can fight and strategize like she can. Maybe I can spar with her sometime, get to know her style a bit more...

Why am I thinking that way that I am right now?

I haven't known you for even a day, and I know nothing about you. But I can already tell we are going to make a good team. You and me. Chrom and Anna. We will work together to end this war, to restore peace, and let Emm's dream become reality. I dragged you into a war that you don't even know why your fighting it. But I will make sure you won't regret it. That I promise.
