Chrom
"Well, that's that," I said, walking out of the council room. Emm and Frederick following me.
"Frederick, could you give Chrom and I a moment to talk alone please?" Emm asked Frederick.
Frederick bowed. "Of course, Your Grace. Milord, I'll be on my way to the Shepherds Garrison, if you require anything else, don't hesitate to ask."
"I'm fine, thank you, Frederick. You are dismissed," I said, giving him a wave. He bowed once more and left the room.
"Is everything alright Emm?"
"Chrom, walk with me," she commanded. I followed her, a bit uneasy as to what she wants to speak with me about.
"I wanted to speak with you about your new tactician," she said.
"Ah, Anna." I felt a little relieved, but still a bit nervous, "What do you want to know about her?"
"Chrom, does she really have no memory?"
I sighed. "Yes, she really doesn't. Even if Frederick suggests otherwise. And I know what you're gonna say: I shouldn't bring an amnesiac into a war, I know. But with her strategic thinking and my strength, I really think we will be able to stamp out some of our problems. Trust me on this Emm, I really do trust her. She fought to save Ylissian lives, and that is enough for me to trust her. I don't care what Frederick thinks about her, I'm happy I found her. I already know for a fact that we make a good team."
Emm nodded. "But is her fighting for our people the real reason why you trust her?" she asked.
"What?"
Emm sighed. "I saw the way you were so quick to defend her and how proudly you spoke about her. Even in the council meeting, you were implying that Anna might have some insight on how to deal with this new problem."
"What are you getting at?" I asked uneasily.
"Well, you are a man now and it's perfectly natural for you to have these types of feelings. But you cannot let that sort of thing blind you from your duties and judgment. You know that right?"
My face flushed red. "W-what?! Emm! I've known her for only a few days! I couldn't possibly have those sort of feelings towards her!" I staggered.
Emm sighed again. "Really now? Your red face says otherwise."
"ONLY BECAUSE YOU BROUGHT UP SUCH A TOPIC!!!" I shouted. "Er, I apologize for shouting. It's just that... er..."
I thought back to when I first saw her. The spark I felt in me as I laid my eyes on her, and the sudden warmth and fire I felt within me as I touched her hand for the first time. The way I felt so concerned about the amnesiac even after not even knowing her for an hour. And my happiness when she agreed to join us.
I sighed. "No, Emm. I don't harbor those types of feelings towards her. I just feel like I need to be there for her and believe in her. She has nobody in her life that knows her and she's scared. I'd be too if I woke up with no memories. So, someone has to be there for her and have her back; I'll be that person. I'll be her friend. I can't imagine what she's going through and what I am throwing her into. I don't want her to be uncomfortable and confused, I want her to make new friends and memories with us. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to address my Shepherds about the march to Regna Ferox. Have a good day, sister."
"Oh, Chrom... if only you really knew," Emmeryn muttered.
