Anna

We made it to the Dragon's Table.

Chrom and I stood alone near the grand staircase leading to the alter where Validar would perform this "ritual." The sense of dread and conflicting feelings makes it's into my heart and body, making me want to shrivel up and cry.

"Are you ready, Anna?" I heard Chrom ask. I looked into his eyes and saw that they were filled with strong determination. But underneath, I noticed that his feelings matched mine.

This is it...

"Chrom, first I have a favor to ask..." I said under my breath.

"As long as it's not a request to leave you behind,"

I shook my head and met his gaze once more. "It's not...though I did consider it. I can't hurt you if I'm not there in the first place," I muttered. "But...I can't run from Validar forever. And if I'm going to overcome him, my best chance is with you by my side."

Chrom and I have been through so much already together, and the thought that if we're not careful today, everything we've accomplished together will be just memories.

I could very well be losing the man who has been beside me since the day we met, today.

Chrom smiled at me. "That's more like it," he said.

"But therein lies the favor..." It killed me to force these next words out. "If Validar somehow does gain control over me... Promise me... Promise me you'll cut me down."

I could see Chrom's heartbreak in his eyes. "You can't mean that. You can't ASK that!" he yelled, tears welling up in his eyes.

I took his hands and looked to the ground. "I'll resist him with all that I am. I promise you," I said. "But there are other people involved here, too many people to ignore... You have a duty to protect them as well."

"But what about my duty to you!" he shouted, wrapping his arms around me and hugging me so tightly like it's the only thing keeping me alive.

"Chrom, there are millions of people depending on you! My life against theirs is-"

"The most important aspect in the world to me!" he cried. "I can't live without you! I can't! I'd rather watch the world get destroyed than lose you!"

"Chrom!" I pleaded. "Please don't talk like that! You mustn't! I don't want our feelings to get in the way of saving the entire damn world!"

"You are my world, and making sure you're alive and safe is my top priority!" He looked me straight in the eyes, all the fury and love burning deep within his gaze. "You're going to resist him with everything you have, you hear me? Don't let Validar control you..."

"...I'll try. You know I will."

...

"Validar!" Chrom shouted as we charged into the large room with the altar. The whole room had this weird sense to it. The throne behind Validar was shaped like a dragon, and Grimleal markings were everywhere.

"Chrom... Come to witness the glorious culmination of your failure? How nice," Validar sneered. "I have the Fire Emblem, and the Dragon's Table is set for a feast. I will return Grima to this world!"

"You'll DESTROY the world! Lucina has seen it!" Chrom yelled.

Validar smiled wickedly at us. "Then I pray today's spectacle lives up to her nightmares! The Awakening rite is not only for exalts and Naga, you know. With it, I'll arouse Grima!" He switched is gaze over to me. "The fell dragon needs only a mortal vessel, with you so kindly brought along..."
