"Whoaaa... I don't think I've ever felt so small..." Lissa says. After two weeks of travel, we finally made it to this "Mila Tree". And gods is it large!
"I can't even see the top of it!" Basilio exclaims.
"Most impressive indeed... So the shrine hides all the way up in its branches?" Frederick asks.
Say'ri nods "Aye, sir. A great staircase inside the trunk leads u to it. However, the empire has closed off the only route to the steps. Or perhaps 'roots' to the steps, I should say." She replies.
I firmly nod "Then we'll just have to break through. Come!" I order.
...
Anna and I finally break past all of the soldiers blocking the general "Fiends! You invade kingdoms and bully them into submission... Why? What does it achieve?" I ask.
The Valmese general, a man in full red armor and a very bushy mustache, scoffs at me "Do you even need ask, whelp? Emperor Walhart is destined to rule this world, plain and simple." He says.
"Yes, but to what end?" I ask.
"Irrelevant! Walhart's mind is beyond the grasp of common men." He says.
I prepare my blade and signal for my wife to do the same "So you don't even know what you're fighting for?"
The man laughs "I tend to my own beard, boy. A soldier does not question orders. But he gives his loyalty- and maybe his life- in service of greater men." He replies.
"Greater men? Is living only to conquer so great an ambition?" I ask.
"What could be greater! Once I had dreams myself of commanding a nation... But Walhart? Aye, he dreams bigger. He would rule the entire world! Mine is nothing compare to the moxie of the Conqueror. I am but a single tiny hair in the beard of a flea in his great mustache! Have you not tasted the thrill of being part of something bigger than yourself?" The man asks.
Did he just compare his leader to a mustache? I frown "Not at the price of inflicting cruelty and suffering, no." I declare. Anna prepares her Levin Sword.
The man scoffs "Hmph. Then we have nothing more to discuss. Prepare to learn the meaning of the word 'beard.' ...Fear, I mean fear!" He shouts.
For some reason, I don't feel so intimidated... "Anna, on my mark!" I shout.
"Ready!"
I charge up to the general and slash his torso. I switched Falchion for my Rapier so I can cut through his armor. Right on cue, Anna shoots a bolt of lighting at the wound I inflicted. The man attempts to hit me with his tomahawk, but Anna deflects it with her sword. I slash at the man once more. He is very weak, but not defeated. He swings at me once more, but I jump out of the way. I let out a cry, and jump into the air, finishing off the general. He mutters something and signals for retreat.
Anna quickly runs up to me and does her usual, after battle wound check up on me. I smile as she checks up on me, and wrap one arm around her waist "I'm fine. Nothing that Lissa can't fix in minutes." I deliver a quick kiss to her lips.
She blushes, and our attention is stolen by our son who is currently making over exaggerated gagging noises. Lucina pinches his ear "Grow up, Morgan!" She commands. Anna and I laugh.
We return back to our real objective "Marry! What fighting! I almost pity the enemies of Ylisse." Say'ri says.
I look to the black haired swordmaster "Say'ri, do you know the way up to the shrine?" I ask.
