Marinette's PoV:

I sighed as bright light suddenly pierced the comfortable darkness. Turning over in my oversized king bed, I groggily opened my eyes to see the blurry figure of a maid, who I couldn't see clearly, scurry out of the room. Of course a maid had to wake me up by yanking the curtains open, letting the light shoot right in, then run right out of the room. It's what happens on a daily basis. I stretched my arms over my head, cringing when my joints cracked, before reluctantly swinging  my legs over the edge of my bed and onto the soft carpet beneath. Ignoring the pink slippers, obviously custom made, I walked barefoot into the bathroom to start my boring morning routine. Well, at least it was better than a thousand maids rushing around me, trying to do everything for me. It took forever for me to convince my father, who was a bit over loving, to let me do my own thing in the morning and when I went to sleep at night. After I was done, I pulled my hair  into two perfect pigtails, with lots of practice, and sleepily stumbled towards my walk-in closet.  I was never a morning person.  I was greeted with a smack of pink against my face.

Right. I forgot about that. Today was my eighteenth birthday and my dad said,"I'll make you a dress that will blow everyone away at your ceremony!" By make, he meant getting the best dress-makers in the country to make the dress he wanted the most for me to wear. I really wanted to design my own dress, may I say I am pretty good at designing myself, but my dad was adamant that the 'experts' had to make it. My dress was more appropriate to be called a gown. It was rose pink, long flowing half-see through sleeves down to my wrists, with a heart shaped front with sparkling gold swirls working their way down towards my waist, where it flounced out, literally, into hundreds of layers and fell to the floor. It was also custom made, without a doubt. Rolling my eyes, I put the dress on with the matching shoes, rose pink, with 6-inch heels, and walked to my dressing table. Thanks years upon years to be able to practice, I had the grace, of well, a princess, even with killer high heels! I shoved a crown, which I swear weighed like 10kg, onto my head, without ruining my hair, and put on a dab of make-up. Finally, without an excuse to delay any longer, I walked out of my bedroom, into the bright, but unforgiving real world, poised with as much grace as possible.

As I walked down the corridor passing servants who bowed their heads respectively, I smiled a 100% fake smile that I had perfected and continued my way down until I reached the door of the Central Ballroom. This is where my 18th birthday ceremony is being held. Taking a deep breath, I heard my name being called by the booming voice of my beloved dad, and I mentally prepared myself for the onslaughter.

" I am pleased to introduce Marinette Dupain-Cheng, on her 18th birthday!" The two butlers on either side of the massive doors opened them for me, and I stepped forward, hoping for the best.
