Hey guys, here's another chapter for y'all! Thanks for all the constant votes and support!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Adrien's PoV:
Today was the Marinette should have given me the present. It was my birthday, after all.
She even looked tired, like she spent countless nights with barely enough sleep just to prepare the gift.
I hadn't seen her at the dance studio anymore after I came across her. Maybe she stopped because she already had the dance finished, which was a shame.
I gave little hints, even almost got caught by Alya and Nino. But Marinette just looked at me, confused, and looked away again with her cheeks turning a bit pink.
At the end of the day, I was disappointed, to say the least. Marinette hadn't given me the present or shown any signs of giving me one any time soon.
However, she was excited, with a little twinkle in her eye. Sigh, she probably had another friend who coincidently had the same birthday as me.
A huge flash of grey speed past the corner of my eye.
Startled, I looked side-ways. I was so lost in my thoughts, I didn't even realise I was home yet.
Standing in front of the leering metal spikes that made up the oh-so-familiar entry gate, I steeled myself for another lonely birthday.
At least I still had a patrol as Chat Noir to salvage my dreaded day.
I ran up the stairs, muttering a hasty, "Hello Nathalie." Before she could even say anything, I had already slammed my bedroom door behind me.
Throwing my bag onto the floor, I wanted nothing more than to plop on my bed and take a long, long nap until my patrol.
However, there was a hulking mass of homework piled on my desk, preventing me from doing one of my most favourite things of all time.
I eyed the pile of dreaded homework with contempt, before huffing and turning my head away from the malicious torture.
Laying there for what felt like only a few seconds, which was actually close to 15 minutes, I blundered my way to my desk to fall onto my swivel chair, which swung precariously because of my weight.
I saw a yellow sticky-note on top of the books. Curiosity taking over, I leaned over and ripped the note from its place, scanning through it.
I let out a derisive snort. It read:
Adrien,
As you are a year older starting today, I have supplied you with various books on how to run a business. It is your responsibility to take-over my place after I retire, and you are old enough to learn about it now. I expect notes on all the books in the pile, written neatly, at my desk no later than midnight on the dot.
Regards,
Mr Agreste
He doesn't even remember how old I am. He never has addressed himself as my own father. Plus, I have heard no such thing as him retiring so soon for me to need to do this.
Giving the homework a stink-eye one more time, I grabbed a random book from the top of the pile and flipped it open.
Marinette's PoV:
Rubbing my tired eyes once more, I inspected my gift one more time. It seemed good enough.
Carefully placing it back onto the table once again, I slumped in my chair, head resting against the back of it.
Now that I think about it, Adrien was acting a little weird today. He kept looking at me. It was like, he wanted me to give him something or other...
At the end of the day, he looked disappointed. Maybe I let him down in a way I had no idea about. I'll have to apologise tomorrow.
But for now, I need to find Chat Noir and deliver his present, with a twist.
Adrien's PoV:
I leapt from roof to roof, easily banishing all lingering thoughts. When I was in the air, it was just me and the wind.
"Chat!"
I screeched to a stop. That voice was familiar.
I looked downwards, to be met with a face that confirmed my suspicions. It was Marinette.
She was panting, probably from chasing after me for so long and in the cold. Her nose was an adorable shade of pink from the frostbite.
She was also holding.....a package?
I peered closer and squinted. I'm pretty sure that was gift-wrapped.
"Do you need me to deliver a present for you?" I asked, confused.
She rolled her eyes, her hands snapping to her hips. "No genius, it's for you."
Wait what? Did she just say what I thought I heard she said? I jumped down from the roof, landing next to her.
"Really? Doesn't Adrien, the guy in your class, has his birthday today?"
"Seriously? I am way too awkward with him to even hold a proper conversation with him, much less find out stuff about him!"
"And why is that?" I teased.
The gift was abruptly shoved into my chest, effectively stopping me from talking. I slowly opened it, trying not to show her my hands were shaking.
A yellow notebook was nestled comfortably inside it. Before I opened my mouth, Marinette cut me off.
"Flip through it; it's an animation thing when you flip through the papers really fast.'"
Greatly astonished, I flipped through the pages, watching Marinette in the same clothes I found her practising in the other day dancing.
The squares lit up on every different page, it was jaw-dropping. She also drew every move pain-stakingly perfect, I can't imagine how long she spent drawing the whole dance sequence.
"Did you draw all of it?" I gaped.
"Obviously. You better be grateful. I got a friend who filmed me doing this in real life and I just converted it to drawings at the last minute to make it more of a gift," she shrugged.
What was this feeling? It was like a warm fire was flickering in my chest. I frantically blinked back tears and smiled like it was the last thing on earth. Frankly, I was touched.
"Thank you for this gift; you don't know how much this means to me," genuinely meaning it for the first time in my life.
It was official. Marinette giving me gifts was even better than me falling asleep in my bed straight after school. So. Much. Better.
