When early morning came, just as the sun began to rise, Phil woke up to his phone alarm. He reached out blindly to turn it off and felt a weight shift on him. He opened his eyes and sighed happily when he was met with his favorite chocolate brown irises.
"Goodmorning." Dan moaned. Phil wrapped his arms around his waist and hugged him closer.
"Goodmorning." Phil smiled, his smile faltered slightly when he noticed Dan flinch. He quickly loosed his grip.
"Sorry." He whispered, remembering the events of the night before.
"ss fine," Dan mumbled, sleepily.
"How are you feeling?" Phil asked.
"Sore everywhere, but I'll live." Dan replied, rubbing the sleep from his tired eyes. Phil felt his heart skip a few beats at the sight of his still- half-asleep ex boyfriend.
"I promise you I'll get you out of here as soon as possible."
"How will you do that, Phil? I don't want you getting hurt because of me."
Phil opened his mouth to reply, but he quickly realized he didn't have a clue what he was going to do.
"What if- what if I come back tonight? I can distract the guards and we can sneak out." Phil suggested after a few moments. Dan looked up at him, doubtfully.
"Phil...let's say that works and we do make it out. Where will we go? We'll be fugitives. Is that really the life you want to live? You're free...free to go and do anything you want. I'm not."
"I'm willing to give that up for you because I love you."
"...but why now? Do you actually love me, or do you just feel sorry for me?"
Phil sat up, stunned.
"Are you actually doubting me right now?" Phil asked, crossing his arms over his chest in defense.
"No Phil I-I just want you to really think this over. Just spend a week, one week. Consider everything. You have your whole life ahead of you..."
"But I want to protect you. I don't want them to hurt you anymore, Dan." Phil's eyes softened as he looked into Dan's.
"I'm used to it. I can last another week, and if you decide to leave me here, I will be fine just knowing you're living a normal life."
"Okay. I'll give it one week's worth of thought, but until then I'll make a plan to get you out of here."
"Phil-"
Phil quickly cut Dan off with a kiss to his cheek.
Dan looked at him in disbelief, with a slight tinge of rosy pink settling on his cheeks.
"I still can't believe you're here with me. I always imagined you being here, especially on the bad days; but I can actually touch you..." Dan raised his hand and gently caressed Phil's cheek, slowly tracing his fingers over his jawline.
"...and I don't ever want to stop."
"I don't want you to stop either."
Phil leaned in to kiss Dan, but suddenly he heard footsteps outside.
"Shit." Phil whispered, snapping out of his love-sick state and remembering exactly where he was. He reached down for his phone and checked the time.
"I need to go before someone sees me." Phil sighed.
"Will I see you today?" Dan asked.
"Of course. I've got to counsel my crazy ex-boyfriend." Phil leaned in, unable to resist kissing Dan's rosy cheek.
"I'm not that crazy." Dan pouted once Phil pulled away.
"Nah. You're perfect." Phil kissed Dan's scrunched nose and quickly got up to gather his things.
"Stay out of trouble." He ordered before opening the door and leaving.
