Dan woke up to the bright sun rays peeking through the cracks in the wooden walls. He felt around, still relatively asleep, but couldn't find his other half, other half being his raven haired vixen, of course.
Dan's eyes opened fully and he found that he was completely alone. No sign of Phil anywhere.
"Phil?!" Dan called out, perhaps a bit stupidly.
He slowly stood up and stretched his tired, worn, muscles. He and Phil had done way too much exercise the night before, but he was grateful nevertheless. He owed Phil his life.
"Phiiiiiil!"
Sure Phil was the reason he almost died and was tortured in an asylum, but Phil was different now. If he wasn't perfect before he definitely was now and Dan only wished for Phil to control his crazy voices enough so that he could return his affections more. Maybe he could teach him a few tricks, maybe he could even do something romantic for Phil, then he would see.
They would take their revenge together, partners in crime and then settle down in a small town or in the middle of nowhere, Dan didn't care. They'd get married, adopt a dog, live like a normal couple. That was Dan's dream since day one, to marry the boy who saved him from the bullies. Maybe he hadn't changed too much after all...he was still protecting Dan.
With that thought lingering on Dan's mind, it was settled, Dan was going to do something romantic, something that would really get Phil's attention.

"Dan I'm back with food! Sorry I took so long I-"
Dan held his breath as Phil walked in to the barn. Phil didn't move an inch, only stared with wide eyes.
"Hey Phil." Dan tried to say with confidence.
"What is this?" Phil asked after a moment.
"Do you not like it? I just thought...you were, you know...distant...I just...ugh it's stupid, I know," Dan rambled, nervously.
Phil set the bags of food down on the old weapon cleaning table and shook his head.
"No Dan, it's great, I'm just surprised is all." Phil came closer, eyes following the fairy lights strung up around the rafters.
"Where did you find all of these lights?" Phil asked.
"The people who used to own this place had them stored in the rafters, the cops must have overlooked them." Dan nervously picked at the pieces of hay piled up next to him.
Phil giggled, making Dan bite at his lip with nerves. Did Phil think this was too silly? Were they not destined to be the romantic types? Needless to say, Dan was embarrassed, his cheeks flushed a rose pink.
"Why are you blushing, love?"
Dan felt Phil's arms wrap around his waist and looked up, wide eyed.
"It's too much isn't it?" Dan asked.
Phil giggled again, "no love, it's amazing. I just...I don't know how you managed to get all of those lights up on the rafters and figure out the passcode on my phone to play music all in the time I've been gone, but it's amazing."
Dan beamed at Phil's words. He actually pulled it off, he lit up the barn in fairy lights and hacked Phil's phone to play a romantic playlist. Dan felt like the romance pro.
"Well then, may I have this dance my prince?" Dan asked with a grin.
"Yes, you romantic bean." Phil rolled his eyes and moved his arms up to Dan's shoulders, letting him take the lead.
They began to sway along with the music, looking into each other's eyes and smiling like idiots.
"You know in moments like this I forget that I'm a little bit crazy." Dan remarked.
"You don't seem so crazy anymore, I think I'm the crazy one now." Phil said, twirling a loose curl on the back of Dan's head.
"Phil, you aren't crazy...trust me. I know crazy and I know how bad I can get. What you've done is no where near what I have done. I've killed many...mercilessly. Though you'll help me get my revenge, I'll be the one doing the final kills." Dan explained.
"But Dan-"
"No buts. I won't let you kill anyone else. I won't let you lose yourself."
Phil stopped dancing.
"Dan I can hold my own, and I don't need someone protecting me. I want revenge too, what those people are doing is sickening and I want to make it right. I will kill as I please and I don't need your permission to do so." Phil stated, his tone going deep and serious.
"At least do as I say when the time comes. I have the most experience and you and I both know it. Just let me keep the only thing I have left in this world safe." Dan caressed Phil's cheek with the tips of his fingers.
"Just have some faith in me..." Phil said, softly.
"Listen, can we talk about this another time and just enjoy each other's company for a moment?" Dan asked, a bit agitated.
Phil sighed, slowly.
"Yeah, but I'm not forgetting this."
"Yeah." Dan sighed, beginning to sway their bodies to the music again.
Phil leaned in and rested his chin on the groove of Dan's shoulder.
"Dan?"
"Hmm?"
"What will become of us after all of this is over?"
Dan's mind flashed images of dan and phil in a small, but cozy, home. As dan cuddled up on the sofa and nuzzled into Phil's side, the softest blanket wrapped around them, a medium sized dog, rests its chin on the other end. A warm fire reflecting it's light on the walls while simultaneously making shadows dance on every surface. Dan twirls the ring around Phil's finger as his own matching ring glimmers in the firelight. A Buffy rerun plays on mute and Phil runs his other hand through Dan's soft curls.
A distant dream.
"We'll live happily ever after, I'll make sure of it." Dan replies, turning his head to kiss the back of Phil's.
"I hope so." Phil sighs in content.
