Phil sat in his bedroom, nervously fiddling his thumbs. His things were already packed though a few hours remained until his and Dan's escape. Despite his nervousness he was kind of excited to step out of his normal life and into this life of crime with Dan by his side. Who would've guessed that after all these years he would so willingly follow his ex boyfriend, who murdered his friends, and seemingly came back from the dead. He had fully forgiven Dan at this point; it was never his fault, but the fault of circumstance. Maybe once they returned to their hometown they could somehow rekindle their teenage love, but for now the only things on Phil's mind were escape and revenge.
Dan had taught him a few combat tricks, but Phil wasn't so sure of his physical abilities. The guards here were shorter in size but what they lacked in height they certainly made up for in muscle mass. Phil would need to be creative to take one of them down, maybe even find a weapon.
Dan had asked him for a single favor in which Phil agreed to with some hesitation; mostly because he just wasn't sure if he could pull it off.
Dan had asked him to kill every big business CEO that used this place for their testing needs. He wanted revenge.
He would help Phil of course but Phil knew it would be hard enough staying hidden after their big escape, turning into assassins would be even harder. Still, he trusted Dan, simply because if it wasn't for him and Cat, Dan would have never been caught. Dan was good at what he did, he had more than enough experience, Phil on the other hand just hoped he wouldn't mess everything up by being his usual clumsy self.
Phil looked up nervously at the clock on his bedside table. 4 o' clock, still 7 hours to go. Phil groaned and lay back in bed, going over the plan in his head. Soon enough, he fell asleep.
---
Phil awoke with a start and bumped his head against the bedpost. He groaned and rubbed his forehead as he reached into his pocket for his blaring cell phone. He squinted at the bright screen in the pitch darkness of his room and shut off the alarm. It was time. Phil flicked on the lights and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. He hoped Dan hadn't had to endure any torturous tests today, that would seriously make escaping a lot harder.
Phil fixed his hair and picked up his bag, not even bothering to turn off the lights as he made his way out of his room and quietly shut the door behind him.
Making it to Dan's floor was easy enough. Phil tried to reassure himself that he had done this successfully a few times before, this was going to be just as easy to pull off. However, getting caught wandering the halls at night with nothing was easier to explain than a suitcase of all of his belongings.
Phil finally reached Dan's door after tip toeing past a sleeping guard. Easy enough.
He ever so carefully unlocked the door and opened it without a sound; however, he wasn't prepared for what he saw when he walked through.
Dan was being pinned to the wall by a guard. The neck of his shirt was ripped and a spot of blood dropped down his lip. Phil closed the door without detection, mad and ready to defend Dan.
"Just relax and it'll hurt less." The guard demanded, punching Dan in the gut. Dan coughed in pain and finally made eye contact with Phil. His mouth twitched ever so slightly and he returned his gaze to the guard to avoid suspicion.
"Okay! Okay I'll do whatever you want, just please stop." Dan said in a raspy voice.
Phil took this moment to grab a kitchen knife he had stolen from the kitchen earlier from his suitcase. He shakily gripped the handle and raised the knife, taking a few steps forward until he was just behind the guard. He was about 4 inches taller than the muscular man and could easily watch Dan from over his shoulder.
"No promises," the guard laughed. "Now just stay still and close your eyes."
Dan closed his eyes and yelled, "Now Phil!"
Before the guard could turn around Phil dug his blade into his neck, making any sound the guard made muffled with pooling blood. The guard stumbled, clutching his wound, and fell to the floor, dead. Phil looked up at Dan and quietly cursed as he saw the guard's blood dripping down his face, covering his soft skin. It should have been a crime to cover that beauty.
"Dan are you okay?" Phil asked. Dan nodded, wiping some of the blood from his eye.
"Come on let's quickly get you cleaned up then we can get out of here. Are you packed and ready?" Phil asked, leading Dan to the bathroom.
"Yes I'm ready." Dan followed phil and hoisted himself up on the countertop as Phil began to gently wash away the blood.
"Thank you for saving me." Dan said as Phil wiped the blood off his forehead.
"Of course. No problem." Phil smiled.
"You killed him. How do you feel?" Dan asked.
"Honestly? It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be." Phil didn't mind it too much. He recognized the guard as one that had been abusing dan every other night for years. That guard deserved what he got. It made Phil feel alive.
"Good. I was worried...but I'm so proud of you Phil." Dan broke out into a huge grin.
"Proud?" Phil asked, throwing the bloody towel on the floor.
Dan nodded enthusiastically.
"You're just taking everything so well. I'm proud of you for making your first kill so effortlessly." Dan jumped down from the counter and picked up his bag from under his bed.
Phil followed him to the door and together they took one last look in the room and exited the room.
The sleeping guard hadn't budged, but Phil knew to stay alert. He held Dan's hand as they quietly made their way down to the first floor with no confrontation. They snuck through the kitchen with only Phil's phone light to guide them and finally reached the backdoor.
The cold night breeze hit the boys and they welcomed it. Dan walked out and had to suppress a giggle. This was the first time in years that he had felt the fresh outside air against his skin. It felt wonderful. Cold, but amazing.
Phil watched him fondly. In that moment, he wished he could give the boy the world.
Reality hit and he grabbed Dan's hand once more.
"Come on we should get going." Phil whispered. He knew that the break on the fence was quite a ways down and he didn't want to stay out in the open too long. He knew once they were under the cover of trees they would be safer.
Dan followed him as they jogged down the line of the fence. They both hated exercise, but it was necessary.
When they finally reached the gap, both boys were out of breath. Phil had Dan crawl under first and Phil followed for no other reason than to get a good look at his ass. The boy just didn't do belts too well. Bless.
"How are we going to cross the stream?" Dan asked, pulling his bag of things over his shoulder.
"See the big rocks in the middle? Jump on those?" Phil pointed to a line of large jagged rocks being illuminated by the moonlight.
"Are you crazy?"
"Maybe a little." Phil grinned.
"What if they move out from under us?"
"They won't just trust me on this." Phil took the liberty of going first to give Dan some piece of mind. The rocks were sturdy enough. Once he got to the other side he turned back to Dan with a huge grin big enough to say I told you so.
Dan jumped the rocks with ease and stuck his tongue out at the boasting black haired boy.
"So where do we go from here?" Dan asked.
Phil pointed. "We have to walk that way until we are out of the woods. The train stop should be there."
"Let's get going then."
---
Dan and Phil were boarding the train just as loud distant sirens began to ring in the night. The sound quickly drowned out in the night as the train sped away from the asylum and away from their past lives.
