~~Sorry this is so late again everyone. I've been dealing with a lot of health issues :( but enjoy!~~
That was close. Phil thought as he paced his way back to his room. Too close...what would Ms. Jen have done to them if they had been caught? The thought made Phil's skin crawl and an uneasy feeling of dread grew in his gut. He would be arrested, fired, expelled, or worse, put in a place like this as a patient. But what would happen to Dan? How much worse could this place get for those who disobeyed the rules to this extent? Phil didn't want to ever have to find out. If anything, his uneasiness only drove him to want Dan's freedom to come sooner.
When Phil finally reached the corridor to his room, he stopped mid step. Ms. Jen was standing in front of his room looking like her usual pissed off self.
"Ah, Phil, how was your session with Dan?" She asked with a hint of bitterness.
Phil swallowed, thickly.
"Good...I guess." He shrugged.
Ms. Jen pursed her lips and nodded.
"Look Phil, if things are not working out we can always switch you over to another patient."
"Not working out? Why would you think that?" Phil had to mentally stop himself from speaking up too abruptly in protest.
Ms Jen crossed her arms and began to tap her foot, impatiently, on the old wooden floor.
"The doctors and I have been looking over your notes and we haven't seen anything new. Has he gone mute again?"
Phil mentally cursed at himself in about 5 different languages. He had been too preoccupied with Dan lately that he forgot he had to make up extensive notes.
"No... No he hasn't gone mute. He's just been repeating his previous statements. I'm trying to gain his trust until he's ready to reveal the real root of his issues to me." Phil lied. The last true information he had provided them regarding Dan was the things he told him from the first session.
Ms. Jen narrowed her eyes and studied Phil's face for a few moments. Phil gave her his best grin in hopes it made him look sincere. She blinked a few times before giving an exasperated sigh.
"Alright Lester, I'll give you 1 more chance. If you can't get anything new from him I'm afraid we'll have to assign you an easier patient. Understood?"
Phil shook his head, quickly. "Yes Ms. Jen. I understand."
"Good."
And with that, the evil hag was off to torment some other poor soul and Phil was left to think, and worry.

That night Phil snuck off to Dan's room again. When he stepped in he almost thought he was in the wrong room. The lights were off and the room was pitch black; Dan always waited up for him. Where was he?
"Dan?" Phil whispered, feeling along the cold, cracked walls. An eery feeling of déjà vu, crept up his spine, though he couldn't pinpoint why exactly this situation seemed so familiar to him.
"Dan?" Phil called out again, a bit louder. He was beginning to think Dan wasn't in yet, but the doctors should have been long gone by this hour.
Phil abandoned the wall and decided to walk further in until the darkness surrounded him. His heart began to race as sudden flashes of panic and running from an unknown figure filled his head. He gasped and rubbed furiously at his eyes to block out the images. He wasn't sure where the sudden torment was coming from, but In this dark room, he had never felt more alone.
Unexplainable feelings of loneliness and fear suddenly crashed down all at once, destroying his previously calm state. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he felt his knees give out from under him. He began to fall to the floor when he felt two strong arms catch him.
"Shh. It's me, love. I'm here." A soft-voiced angel echoed in Phil's mind, snapping him out of his irrational state.
"Dan? Is that you?" Phil whispered, meekly.
"Yeah, here, let's get you in bed." Dan kept his strong hold around Phil's waist as he led him confidently through the dark. Dan set them both down on the squeaky mattress bed and ran his fingers along Phil's spine. Phil wished he could see Dan's face to calm him further, but it was still completely dark.
"W-Why is it dark?" Phil asked, finding comfort to speak in at least Dan's touch.
"The lights in all of this wing's rooms went out, and sorry I didn't greet you, I fell asleep waiting," Dan replied. "Does the dark bother you? It sounded like you were having a panic attack."
"I guess so," Phil nodded, though Dan couldn't see it. Phil closed his eyes, much preferring the darkness behind his eyelids than the darkness of the room. He shivered.
"Don't worry. I'm here." Dan cooed as he pulled Phil to his chest.
Phil breathed in the familiar scent and cuddled in closer. They stayed like that, not speaking, just enjoying each other's warmth. Phil felt his breathing grow slower as he edged along a state of sleep and awareness.
"I won't let the monster in the dark get you, Phil." Dan whispered, hot and breathy in his ear.
Phil cuddled closer, feeling protected from the darkness, but Dan's sentence stood out to him. Suddenly Phil remembered his dream; it had to be a coincidence. How could Dan know about his recurring nightmare?
Phil lifted his head.
"Wait. How do you know about the monster in the dark?"
