The next day Phil did his usual morning routine, but he was told he had another day off. Ms. Jen said, it was more for the patient than for him as she attributed Dan's violent behavior was caused by him being too overloaded with questions.
Phil found himself missing Dan's presence for most of the day, wondering what he could be doing. He decided to have a look around the third floor to see if he could maybe catch a glimpse of him going to one of his medical visits.
He walked down the third floor halls, passing many nurses and guards. He found himself in the medical wing of the floor and a nurse smiled up at him from her desk. She asked if he needed help finding something and he politely declined her help and attempts and small talk. He strolled down the halls looking at every door, most were closed, but Phil heard a loud bang come from one that was half open. The bang was followed by a spew of loud profanities and Phil instantly recognized the voice to be Dan's.
"Now just calm down Daniel you know fighting us will only get you hurt." Another voice spoke. Phil hid behind the door and quietly looked through the open end. Dan was tied down to a reclined hospital chair with a belt around his neck and forehead, holding his head in place. A doctor and a nurse had their backs turned to Phil and were sorting through a tray of tools and liquids. Dan's eyes were wide with fear.
Phil waved his hand around and caught Dan's attention. Dan looked at him through the corner of his eyes, he looked scared, but he relaxed a little in his presence.
"Alright Daniel we are going to test out the eye solutions today. If you squirm around too much we will have to put the eye opener on you and I know you don't like that." The doctor spoke. He grabbed a small eye dropper and dipped it into one of the liquids on the tray. When it was filled, he held it over Dan's face. Dan looked down towards Phil and flinched when the doctor dripped the liquid in his eye.
His eye immediately started to turn red and he screamed in pain. The nurse quickly poured another solution in to wash out the liquid.
Phil threw his hand over his mouth, feeling his chest ache at the sounds. Dan breathed heavily to catch his breath as the doctor tried another liquid on his other eye; the liquid producing the same response.
Phil curled up his hand in a fist as the doctor and nurse continued this with no remorse.
Tie them down. Make them feel his pain.
Phil watched helplessly as they tried at least 10 solutions on Dan's eyes; they were scolding him not to cry because it was mixing with the chemicals. Phil's hands began to shake. They were just using Dan for testing, they tortured him. They weren't thinking of his health at all.
Phil turned away and leaned against the wall trying to calm down. This wasn't like him at all, but he couldn't help it. They were monsters, just like the asylum doctors in American Horror Story.
When it was finally over, Phil turned back and half-jogged back to his room. When the door was locked behind him he ran to his bed and held the pillows to his chest. He couldn't forget the image of Dan cringing and screaming in pain. It was almost worse than watching him bleed out in his arms.
Phil screamed and sobbed until he had nothing left in him and his sadness turned to anger. He pushed the pillow away and punched it.
You can't save him this time. You don't have the guts. He's going to die here and it will be all your fault.
"No!" Phil screamed, clutching his ears.
Then do something about it.
You know you want to.
You want to help him.
We will show you the way.
Phil fainted.

Phil woke up hours later. He checked his phone and saw that it was 1 in the morning. Not the best time to be awake as he wouldn't be able to sleep again tonight. He decided to check on Dan.
Phil snuck upstairs and quietly made his way to Dan's room. He listened out for any guards, but no one seemed to be around. He quickly typed in the code and opened the door. Dan's room was still dimly lit, he probably didn't have any control of the lights. He was lying face down in his bed, clutching at the sheets. Phil stared longing at the pale, lightly freckled, skin that was protruding out of the sheets. He walked to the side of the bed and sat on the edge. He smoothed back Dan's fringe out of his eyes and saw that they were slightly red on the lids. Dan stirred a bit, but didn't wake up.
Phil moved his hand down and placed his palm flat on Dan's bare back, he gently began to rub the soft skin, enjoying the feeling of it against his own skin.
"Phil?" Dan moaned, opening his eyes.
"Yes, it's me, Dan." Phil whispered.
"What are you doing here?" Dan squinted to look at him.
"I came to check on you. How do you feel?" Phil noticed Dan's eyes were still quite red.
Dan reached down and held Phil's other hand.
"Better, now that you're here."
Phil smiled. "I'm glad. I was really worried you wouldn't be able to see anymore."
"I can see. Things are just a little blurry. They gave me some medications for it."
"Good."
Dan reached down and pulled up the sheets for Phil to climb in. Phil happily obliged.
"Why were you in the hospital wing?" Dan asked as he rested his head against Phil's chest.
"I was curious as to what they were doing around here that was so sketchy."
"You believed me?" Dan looked up at Phil.
"Of course." Phil replied, truthfully.
Phil absentmindedly began to run his fingertips up and down Dan's spine.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For believing me and coming to make sure I was okay. It's just...really sweet of you, Phil. Thank you." Dan whispered, giving Phil's hip a gentle squeeze.
"Right, of course." Phil replied.
They lay like that for a few minutes in a comfortable silence, Dan snuggling into Phil's chest and Phil running his fingers along Dan's back. It almost reminded Phil of the nights they used to spend with each other in high school. Except now Dan was the one needing to be held. Phil looked down at the bruises fading on Dan's back. He was just so broken. Phil wanted more than anything to put Dan back together again.
"Dan?" Phil asked, softly.
"Mmhmm?" Dan hummed.
"Would you...would you mind if I kissed you? Just for a moment?" Phil asked, not sure if this was a good idea or not. Dan was just so broken, he couldn't help himself.
He heard Dan's breath hitch as Dan pulled away slightly and looked up at him with his red rimmed eyes.
"Y-you actually want to kiss me?" Dan stuttered.
Phil nodded.
"O-okay. Erm go ahead." Dan said, his eyes flicking down to Phil's lips and back.
Phil moved his hand up to caress Dan's cheek and they both began to lean forward. The moment their lips touched, Phil felt the familiar heat and sparks he had felt 5 years ago when they first kissed each other. Dan's lips were softer than he remembered and they molded perfectly with his. Phil felt heat begin to rise to his lips and make his cheeks flush. He pulled away for air but couldn't stand the distance and reconnected their lips once more. Phil reached down and pulled Dan's body closer to take in more of his warmth. He moved his hands up to the curve of Dan's waist and squeezed his skin slightly. Phil almost felt intoxicated by Dan's smell, Dan's warmth, Dan's touch, Dan's everything. Everything was Dan and nothing could stop Phil now from doing everything in his power to fix him.
