"So, I'm presuming that Heart was in here before," you mentioned, as you pointed over to the book on the side table with your right index finger.
"Yes, we're taking turns watching over you. He was busy writing down this cake recipe while you were sleeping. He'll retrieve the book before we leave, though; I think he left it in here, so that you could view it. He's quite passionate about his cooking, as I'm sure you've noticed, Miss _____," Diamond responded, holding another piece of cake out for you to eat.
Eating the scrumptious sweet, you swallowed it before answering, "Yeah, I have. I still remember that cooking incident, which occurred over a year ago. Regardless, I have another question to ask you, Diamond. It's rather random, but it's been bothering me since the night your brother and you showed me the ballroom. So, tell me, what are those small winged creatures that play the instruments?"
"Hmm, those are musical flowers. Of course, they aren't actually flowers. They're essentially miniature pixies who cover themselves in flower petals from head to toe. They are happy to play any musical instrument should one request it of them. The ones you saw, Miss _____, are the ones that live in our castle. Generally, they live all over the world, but are most happy within human structures."
After finishing another few bites of cake, which Diamond gave you, you questioned, "If the musical flowers are always playing for your brother and you, does that mean that neither of you know how to play the instruments in your home? Granted, Heart can play the pipe quite well, but with the exception of that instrument."
"You're correct. Heart knows only how to play the pipe while I have no musical talents. Does this bother you, Miss _____?"
"No, I'm just glad that neither of you play the harp," you commented, as you recalled the instrument that the King of Clovers plays.
A small smile painted Diamond's lips before he continued to feed you your breakfast. Somehow, you managed to hide the small blush that tried to overtake your cheeks, but you still found this circumstance embarrassing. If only your left shoulder weren't in so much pain, you would steal the tray from him. When he finished feeding you, he set the tray on the table by the book. Afterwards, he returned to sitting on the bed while his reddish-orange gaze traveled to your bandaged shoulder.
Following his gaze, you noticed that the bandaging needed to be replaced. Realizing this, you drew your left hand up to the covered wound, so as to try to hide the fact from Diamond. To your displeasure he moved closer to you before extending his right arm towards your hand. Instinctively, you drew yourself further into the soft pillows behind you. This didn't stop him, however, from gently grabbing your hand and pulling it away from your shoulder.
"This needs to be changed, Miss ______."
"Well, I'm not letting you attempt such a thing."
"Do you honestly think that I would look at anything against your will?" he asked with a slight look of hurt in his eyes.
"Don't try and sway me with that look in your eyes, Diamond. It won't work, and I won't allow you to tend to my wound. Just hand me my pack, and I'll deal with it," you asserted, holding your right hand out, so that he could give you your pack.
"Such a stubborn girl," he muttered before getting off the bed and grabbing your bag, which was at the base of the bed and previously out of your field of vision.
You waited for him to hand the pack to you, but he just rested it on his lap. He moved back to his original sitting place on the bed, which was farther from you. Grumbling a few curses at the male, you went to push yourself forward, so you could grab the bag from him. Inching yourself closer to him, you had to bite back the pain that would occasionally shoot through your shoulder. As you were doing this, Diamond watched with an unreadable gaze.
The moment you were close enough to him, you extended out your right arm and went to snatch the pack from him. He easily lifted it out of your reach and waited for your next move. In order to grab the pack, you would have to utilize your left arm. This you didn't want to do, but you didn't desire Diamond changing the bandages for you.
Telling yourself that the pain would be brief, you breathed in before exhaling. Supporting yourself on your right arm, you lifted up your left arm while your shoulder protested against the action. Biting the inside of your left cheek, you continued to reach for the bag. Diamond maintained his neutral countenance and only moved the pack up higher. Wanting to seriously injure the male, you took another breath in before letting it out. In the next moment, you utilized your right arm to push yourself towards the bag before swiftly thrusting out your left arm.
Your left fingers just barely grazed the pack before pain erupted in your shoulder. Not being able to withstand it, you fell forward, right onto the lap of Diamond. A sigh left his lips, as he stared down at your form.
"If you can't even grab a simple bag from me without experiencing a wave of agony, how do you expect yourself to treat your wounds properly?"
"It's different. I won't be extending my arm out in such a way. You know that!" you exclaimed in pain, as you tried to prevent some tears from running down your face. "Now, hand it over!"
"No, I will tend to your wounds whether you like it or not. Iris is currently sleeping, so she is unavailable. Granted, I can always retrieve my brother. Would you prefer that, Miss _____?"
"What?! Well...no, I suppose," you replied, trying to push yourself off his lap.
"Then stop being a stubborn girl, and let me help you," he said flatly, as he turned you over onto your back, so that you could look up at him.
"If anyone is being stubborn, it's you, Diamond. Why is it so important that you change my bandages? Do you disrespect my privacy that much?"
"If I were to disrespect you in such a way, Miss _____, you would already be without a shirt and against the back of the bed with your body secured to it," he announced in a slightly lower tone than usual.
Combining both his voice and his words sent a shiver up your spine, as you couldn't bear to meet his darkened gaze. Why did he have to respond with such a reply? It caught you off guard, making you feel quite vulnerable in your position. With your gaze turned away, though, you didn't see him set down the pack. Within a few seconds, he slid his left arm under the back of your knees and his right arm beneath your torso. Worried about his intent, you began to struggle before you cried out in pain due to your left shoulder hitting his chest hard.
"Put me down, Diamond!" you shouted, as he stood up from the bed.
Not listening to you, he set you back down in your original position on the bed before pulling the sheets up to your waist. He summoned the roll of bandages into his hands before setting the roll on the bedspread nearby. Keeping your (e/c) gaze fixed on him, you saw him reach for your shoulder again. Before you could make any action against him, he gave you a warning glance, indicating for you not to make another move. Slightly terrified of his current expression, which was a mixture of frustration and impatience; you complied, but remained wary.
Carefully, he slid both your shirt sleeves down before slipping your arms out of them. He, however, didn't slide the shirt down past your chest. Regardless, your cheeks were reddened at the action, and the feeling of his long fingernails gliding across your skin wasn't helping. Slowly and gently, he pushed your left bra strap down, indicating for you to pull your arm out of the strap. Cheeks a bright shade of red, you did as he signaled and looked away while making sure that your shirt was still secure to your chest.
Soon you winced, though, when he began to remove the current bandages from your skin. Thankfully, this process didn't take too long. Once they were off, he went over to the metal basin, poured some water in it, grabbed the beige colored cloth and returned to you with the basin. Setting the bowl on his lap, he dipped the cloth into the water before dabbing your shoulder with it. The contact between your skin and the water stung a bit, but you just bit your bottom lip a bit and withstood the slight pain.
After he finished cleaning your wound a bit more, he began to wrap the new bandages around your shoulder. At times, one of his nails would hit your wound, causing you to jump slightly. When this occurred, Diamond would mutter an apology before returning to his work. When at last he had tied the bandages off, he stood up from the bed and placed the remaining clean bandages back into your pack. As he put the bag back on the ground, you pulled your bra strap and your shirt sleeves back up. It hurt slightly to do so, but thankfully that uncomfortable situation was over.
