When the brothers had finished wrapping the deep wounds with cloth bandages and changing into new clothes, they mentioned that you could turn around. Just in case they tried something, you slowly peered over your shoulder and sighed in relief, since you saw them fully clothed. Diamond had on his simple grey button-up while red pants covered his legs. Moreover, black lace-up knee-high boots were on his feet, and a gold hoop was in each ear. Lastly, his pocket watch, which was once broken but was now fixed, was clutched in his left hand. Concerning Heart, he wore his casual white button-up while black pants went over his legs. Likewise, blue knee-high boots protected his feet, as a silver hoop rested in his left ear. Furthermore, each brother had put their face paint back on.

With them done, you decided to take a seat by your backpack, but you found yourself resting your back against the storage device. Your feet were stretched out across the different hues of grass. Heart joined you on the ground a few seconds later, as he took a seat a few inches away from your left side. Diamond, on the other hand, clicked the small button on top of the watch and checked the time. After announcing that it was two in the afternoon in their world, he glanced upward at the sky. Following his action, you could only guess that it was late morning in this world, probably around eleven.

Once he put the watch back into the pack he shared with Heart, the red-haired male sat down on the grass across from you. All three of you remained silent while a gentle breeze swept over the land mass. The only sound besides the wind was Diamond reaching into their backpack again. Soon, he pulled out a bag of dried mangos along with a container of almonds. When he set them in the middle of you three, you happily took one of the mango slices and started chewing on it.

As you were halfway done with the sweet slice, Heart swiftly snatched it from your left hand and tossed it into his own mouth. Blinking a few times at the unexpected action, you turned your head to look at the now grinning male. Visibly frowning, you combed your right fingers through your hair before lifting your left hand up and slapping him hard on the back of his head. Granted, it didn't help your healing shoulder, but the action was worth the pain. Due to your action, though, Heart almost coughed up the food. He managed to keep it in his mouth, as you let out a light chuckle in amusement. Diamond couldn't help but laugh as well before he ate a few almonds.

The moment Heart swallowed the food, he didn't show any sign of anger. Instead, he picked up a small mango slice and gave you a mischievous smirk. Deciding that it would be best to create some distance between you two, you moved across the grass somewhat, but Heart was quicker. Within a few seconds, he dragged his tongue over the slice of fruit before tackling you to the ground.

Groaning in slight pain due to your shoulder, you glared up at the blue-haired male. Before you could even ask what he was doing, he held the slice between his right thumb and index fingers while he attempted to pry your mouth open with his right middle and ring fingers. Regarding his left hand, he pressed it against your right shoulder and tried his best to keep you in place. Since your left hand and arm were free, you took your left middle and index fingers and jabbed him in his right side. This almost caused him to get off you, but soon Diamond came over and held your left arm down.

Cursing at the two in your head, you proceeded to try and bite Heart, but the moment you opened your mouth, he stuck the mango slice in. Pressing his right hand over your mouth, you were forced to eat the dried fruit. Once you swallowed it, both brothers released you. With a light tint of pink on your cheeks, you sat up and looked away from the both of them, calling them certain names under your breath.

Regarding the rest of the time you three spent resting, it consisted of the brothers taking turns to mess with you, or them pestering you to tell them who was the better kisser. Thus, your solution was to grab a blanket from your pack and throw it over your head. Making sure it was over your ears; you faced away from them and pretended that you couldn't hear them. You heard amused laughs behind you, but they did stop bothering you. Apparently, your childish action was enough to convince them to end their antics.

About five more minutes passed before the three of you figured that you should head to the city. Thus, all of you stood up. Heart took your pack once more, even though you stated that it wouldn't be necessary anymore. At such a comment, he ruffled your hair a bit and mentioned that you were being silly. After rolling your eyes at him, you focused your attention on the gates in the distance and began walking towards them. Both brothers followed behind you, as all of you traveled through the grass and grains. It was strange, though, that you saw no one tending to the grain fields. Assuming that the farmers had a day off from work, you pushed the curiosity aside.

It wasn't long before all of you reached the massive gates. Their height was quite intimidating, but beyond them was a world of wonder. You could see countless varieties of flowers growing from the earth while gazebos of various colors stood among the fields. From where you were, you couldn't see any of the supposed markets or the streams, but you didn't need to. Already, you were admiring the beauty behind the wrought iron. About to reach out and open one of the gates, a voice called out.

"Don't you dare touch that gate, child!" sounded the voice of a male.

Each of you turned your attention to the direction of where the voice came from. Upon doing so, you noticed a rather short elderly man, about the height of four feet and three inches, walking towards you three. You couldn't really see his face due to his long white locks, which were rather thick. Only the tip of his nose and his mouth were visible. An orange robe covered his form while a giant red scarf draped itself over the orange fabric. A wooden walking stick lay under the palm of his right hand, as he soon stopped in front of you three.

"Outsiders aren't allowed inside without the proper procedure. Tell me, though, how did you three manage to reach this land from the waters below?"

"Well, we ..." you began, but were stopped by Diamond.

"How do you know we're not from the city? We could very well be," the red-haired male stated.

"Simple, I know all who live inside, since it is my job to know as gatekeeper. I have never seen any of you beforehand. Now answer my question."

"I suppose that is a fair answer. As for your question, it doesn't matter, but know that we've had a long and hard journey. Now, what do we need to do to get inside?" Diamond asked.

"I suppose if you three have made it to Rinned alive, you deserve to go inside," the old man muttered. "To go beyond the gates, you will have to give up something precious. You will not get to decide what; the protector of the gates will decide," he added.

"I thought you just mentioned you were the gatekeeper," you commented, breaking into the conversation.

"I am, but my duty is to know the names and faces of those inside. The one who defends the gates is someone different. She will show herself should you agree to the price. Now, what's your answer?"

"Can't we have more information on what will be taken from us?" you questioned, slightly worried about this deal.

"The only piece of information I can disclose is that she won't take any of your lives," he responded while pushing some strands of white hair behind his left shoulder.

"What do you two think?" you inquired of the brothers, noticing the slight suspicion in their eyes. They obviously thought this could very well be a trap.

"Do you wish to go inside the city, my dear lady?"

"Well, yes, but what about you two? I'm willing to give up something precious, so that I may solve this puzzle, but you two don't have to do this. You both can wait for me outside the gates."

"That won't happen, my dear lady. You should know that we're not going to allow you to travel alone. We didn't save you from those mermaids just to let you wander off on your own," he answered before looking over at his brother, as they shared a glance among themselves. Focusing his attention back on the short man, he told him, "We'll agree to this deal."

Nodding at Heart's reply, the elderly man raised his left arm and waved it. After performing this signal, a woman made herself apparent in the nearby grain field. She must have been hiding among the tall stalks of wheat. Hair, the color of ocean blue, went down to her shoulders while strands of white hair were among the hairs at the front of her face like sea form on the waves. Pale blue eyes complemented her seemingly perfect hair, as a simple white shirt and skirt covered her form. White sandals were on her feet, and a simple wooden staff was in her left hand's grip. Now standing in front of the brothers and you, her gaze examined each of you. Fixing her blue eyes on the brothers, she pointed to them with her right index and middle fingers.

"You two will bear the burden of the price for entering. Please step forward, so that you are only several inches away from me."

You went to protest against her decision, as the twins did as she commanded. Before you could ask the woman to reconsider, a bright light flashed through the area while the brothers' screams filled the air.
