Chapter forty: Home again

When I got home, I found the house empty. "Everybody is hunting." Alice stated, and mum carried Alec up the stairs. I followed her, needing to know if he was all right. "Should we call Carlisle?" I asked as mum laid him on a bed. "No, we can't risk it right now, and I'm unsure on how he'll heal. Fire isn't a thing Vampires react to nicely." She explained, before wrapping her arms around me. "You don't understand how worried I was for you." She told me. "I was safe, Alec made sure of it." I told her. She kissed my head, before letting me go. "Bella, your phone." Alice called out to us, most likely for mum. She nodded, before her phone rang. "Don't speak." She told me, and I was confused.

"Hello." She answered sadly, and I could hear my father on the other side. "Oh Bella." He sighed. "Did you want me to come up?" he asked. "No." she whimpered, sounding so heartbroken. "How's your mother reacting to the news?" "She's currently putting Chloe down. How's Jacob?" She asked, and I could tell if she could she would be crying. Wait, where was Chloe and J.J? There was a pause before my father spoke. "No change. He's still here." he explained. My Jacob. "Can I speak to him?" I whispered to my mother, but her eyes shot up.

"Who was that?" he asked. "Alice. Something about a vision." She panicked, her voice wasn't so upset, and Alice was beside her in an instant. "Edward. I have-" She muttered, before walking out of the room, closing the door behind her. "We can't tell him that your safe just yet sweetie." She explained. "We need Carlisle to find out that the Voltori have been killed." "How, they don't have Alice." "Listen." She hushed, and the room became quiet.

"Their gone Edward, what more can I say. The whole Clan, turned to ash." I heard Alice's voice explain what happened mere hours ago. I was confused. Why were Alice and mum hiding me from them. "Two figures, in black just walk in and burn the whole building." She continued. "What's going on?" I asked her. Mum kissed my head, before walking away. "Mum." I called out again. "Tell me! Or god so help me. I'll ring Jacob." She turned and faced me, shocked I would say such a thing.

"Your father is currently hunting the voltori. The whole family is." She explained. "They want to get you back for me." "But I'm back. I'm safe." I stated, before realising something "You're not with them. Not fighting for me?" "No." Alice spoke, walking in with Mum's phone in her hand. "We had to make sure you got out safely. If we didn't get you, you would haven't come home." My eyes grew as I understood what she was saying.

"I-I'm confused? What's going on?" I begged them. Mum began walking down the stairs. "Mum!" I called again, but she didn't say anything. "REMESMEE DON'T!" Alice shouted at me as I turned to face Grandpa's office door. "Why not?" I asked, turning around. "He would tell me." "Renesmee." Mum spoke, her voice soft. She had given in. I walked down, Alice and I joining her in the living room.
