Brendon went to bed early that night, knowing he wasn't going to sleep much anyway. His response to his parents asking about how he was was "I'm fine." And then he just went to bed. He laid on his back, staring up at the ceiling.
Though he was exausted, something just wouldn't let him sleep. He closed his eyes. One song lyric from a song he loved rang in his head.
I can't sleep from shivering when I'm not with someone
Though Brendon hadn't ever slept with anyone(he was only 16), he felt like related to this lyric to much. It was just him in his large room, and normally he wouldn't complain, but it was weird not having his roommate in the bed across the room. His roommate, Josh, was a peaceful sleeper and constantly fell asleep during down time. He didn't snore, and was pretty agreeable when he was awake, and was all around a good roommate. He began to wonder if he was awake.
Brendon checked his clock. It read 10:30. His parents were definitely asleep by now. He pulled himself out of bed and grabbed his phone off his desk beside the bed. He crept down the stairs and slipped silently onto the porch. He sat down on the steps and called Josh.
The phone rang once.
Twice
A third time.
Josh picked up. "Hey Brendon." The boy's voice sounded tired as he let out a sleep filled sigh.
"Hey, Josh, did I wake you up?"
"Nah, it's fine. Why are you up? Something wrong?"
"I'm getting super stressed about recording." He heard Josh yawn quietly from over the phone.
"Dude, don't worry about it so much."
"Easy for you to say, your not gonna be in a performance in a week."
"Dude, c'mon. Give yourself some credit here. You have some awesome talent. I love hearing you fill our hall with a shit ton of just like, singing and playing instruments. And dude your high notes, I'm jealous. I got stuck with a deep voice and small range."
Brendon sat on silence while the cool night air blew his hair to the side a bit.
"You're gonna hate me for saying this, but for once, something's bigger than your forehead. And it's your vocal range."
Brendon laughed lightly. "Normally, if it was someone else who said that, I'd be pissed. If you say it to me it's fine. Your like a brother to me, dude."
"Hey, your like a brother to me too, man. Now don't be so hard on yourself, bud. I'll give you a pep-talk before you go to Duffy okay?"
"Yeah, thanks man."
"No problem, dude."
"See ya tomorrow."
"Yeah."
"Oh and one more thing." Josh said before Brendon could hang up.
"Yeah, Josh?"
"Get some fucking sleep, man."
Brendon laughed. "I'll try. See ya later."
"Yep."
Brendon hung up. He really liked having Josh as a roommate. He delt with all Brendon's bull shit and helped him when he needed it. He really hoped Josh would come back next year.
Brendon opened the door and slipped silently back inside. He crept back up the stairs, into his room, and closed the door. He plugged his phone back into it's charger, and laid back on his bed. He closed his eyes and listened to the silence of his street. Soon he was asleep, much like Kyle, Cam, Leah, and Mack were around the same time.
