Broken Keys
Chapter Nine
Speed.
“Slow down!!!” I screamed out of the top of my lungs. Paul was scaring the bloody hell out of me. I should have never agreed to let him drive me home, especially on a motorcycle.
“Calm down,” we are here he said. I looked up and saw the shadow of my new home. It was late, really late. I’m pretty sure I was going to be in a heap of trouble.
“Well thanks for the ride I guess.” I said while hopping off the bike.
“You guess?” Paul questioned.
“Um I’m pretty sure you almost killed me so yes, ‘I guess,” I replied back.
His response was just an immediate chuckle. “Don’t worry Alana, I would never purposely try to kill you,” He winked.
Something, I’m not sure what, but something was telling me to believe otherwise.
“I better get inside before I get into any more trouble.” I said before turning and heading towards the front porch.
“I’ll see you tomorrow night then!’” Paul shouted.
“Uh,” I grunted. What did he mean? “What are you talking about, Paul?” I demanded.
“Oh nothing I’ll let you wait and see.” He smiled.
“Paul!” I shouted. But it was too late; he was already driving down the street.
What is he planning on? I’m not sure as of now, but I guess I will know soon enough.
Quietly, I made my way into the house. Using a ton of effort, I finally managed to unlock the stubborn door with my key. I crept into the dark house inaudibly, and to my surprise no one was there waiting for me. I walked past the living room and into the dimly lit kitchen. Still I found no one in sight, I wonder where everyone is. Usually I would be pounced with questions and threats from my dad if I ever came home this late, but for once he wasn’t here.
My hand traced the wall, in search of the light switch. After flipping it, my eyes closed from being unadjusted to the light. I slowly opened them and strode over to the refrigerator. A blue neon sticky note was posted to it and it read, “Kids, I’ll be back Sunday night. A few boxes that the movers left behind needed to be picked up. Unfortunately I was the only one willing to drive all the way back and get them. I am in no mood to pay for the movers to come all the way back. Love you, behave yourselves! –Dad”
Okay that explains where dad ran off to, but where is Jamie and Addison? I ran upstairs to retrieve my cell phone. “Hey, where are you?” I sent to both Jamie and Addie.
Immediately I received a text back from Jamie, “At a party with Peter and some of his bros. I’ve been texting you all night, where are you?”
“Just got home and I accidently forgot my cell today. I’m going to bed see you tomorrow,” I texted back.
“‘Just got home’ where have you been?” He sent. I could practically hear the anger in his voice. Jamie was so nosy.
“I believe that is for me to know. Good night Jamie, be safe!”
I was done texting for the night, my extreme need for sleep started to take over.
I quickly changed into some comfy shorts and an old ratty t-shirt, and then slipped into my cold sheets. As I lay there, thoughts about Derrick began to stir. I was thrilled to go to the bonfire with him tomorrow, but something in the back of my head was bothering me. I could not help but feel something was off.
The more I thought about it, I came up with the conclusion to do some research. Not only on the Anthony brothers but the Morgan’s as well. Something wasn’t right, and I needed to find out what.
Authors note: Well on the bright side I posted sooner that I thought I would!! On the negative side, I am so overwhelmed and stressed with school. I hope there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. READ< COMMENT<VOTE!
