"JADE! You better be awake!"
Oh crap, I slept through my alarm, Morgan is going to kill me. I jump out of bed and rush into my closet. I am pulling on a pair of black slacks, as Morgan opens my bedroom door.
"You overslept didn't you?"
I nod as I button my blouse. Morgan has been my best friends for the last six years, which is why she has a key to my house. We have been through a lot together, she is the older sister I've always wanted. Even though we are only a year apart in age, she seems more grown up than me.
"I knew you wouldn't get up in time. It's a good thing I know you so well, or you would still be sleeping."
I brush my teeth and my hair quickly. I'm ready to get this over with, I need to stop letting her talk me into things. Morgan has been dating Cole for about a year now, he is a great guy. Every time I see him he is really sweet, and tries to include me in their plans. Today is his birthday, and Morgan is throwing him a party at her house. Nothing to fancy, a small group of friends, is what she said. They both said they would be extremely offended if I didn't show. I think Morgan realized I didn't want to go, which explains why she is here now.
"You said, you were going to take a quick nap. I knew I shouldn't have let you." She laughs.
"I'm sorry, but I'm ready now. Let's go."
We take separate cars, so I can have an escape which I'm sure I will need. Once I pull into the driveway, she is getting out of her car. I trail behind her, catching up when she opens the door, and we walk inside. I head straight to the kitchen to start cooking. Morgan talked me into cooking all the food for the party. She said I'm the best cook she knows. Which I know is just a lie to get me to help out, not to mention a good way to get me to attend the party.
A few hours later, Morgan comes into the kitchen just as I am finishing up the last of the food. She hands me a black sequined mask, one of those ones that only cover your eyes.
"You're kidding right?" I ask.
"No, not at all. It's a masked party, everyone is wearing them."
"You know if you had told me this before now, I wouldn't be here."
"That's why I didn't tell you." She laughs.
Just then the doorbell rings.
"Quick, put it on, people are starting to arrive."
She turns out of the kitchen towards the door, I slip the mask on.
I have met more people than I can remember, and I will have no hope of remembering any of them thanks to these masks. After some time I'm bored with socializing and head to the kitchen. I pretend to busy myself with the different dishes of food for awhile. It has only been an hour, and I'm already ready to leave. Since it is Cole's party, I hardly know anyone here. Just then someone grabs my arm, I turn to see Morgan's sister, Emma. Her and I have had some issues in the past and don't get along too well now. I try to be friendly, since she is one of the only people I will know at the party.
"Emma, I haven't seen you in ages. How are you?"
We chit chat for a little bit until I politely excuse myself. Off to find Morgan and Cole, so I can get out of here. I find them in the living room, talking to a man I don't recognize, but then again he's wearing a mask. I make my way over to them, once I am only a few feet away Cole spots me,
"Jade! I've been looking for you, where have you been hiding?" He exclaims.
"Oh, just behind my mask." I joke.
"I want you to meet my brother." He says, and nods to the man he was talking to.
"Hi, how are you?" I ask him.
"Good, very nice to meet you."
"You too, sorry I can't stay and chat, I have to be going." I say to him then turn to Cole and Morgan.
"Thank you for having me, it was fun. I will see you later." I say quickly before either of them can stop me, then head for the door.
