Chapter 14

The next day, I'm aggravated to find Colton isn't in bed. In fact it doesn't seem like he came to bed at all. After getting ready I start downstairs in search of Colton, turning the corner at the bottom of the stairs I crash into Kane.

"I'm so sorry, I was coming to wake you, Colton is looking for you." He explains.

"Good, I'm looking for him too."

He leads me into the dining room, where Colton is standing in front of three men seated around the table. As I enter the room, all three man stand. They are all dressed in black suits with the hair slicked back. Reminding me of the men in black, now slight nervous I begin to speak.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, Colton may I have a word, please."

"First, I would like to introduce you. These men are our new security team, they will be with us 24/7 from now on." He nods at each of the men. "This is Smith, Avery, and Thompson. They're extremely well qualified and very good at what they do. Please choose one of them to escort you to your meeting with Trevor."

"I...umm...I don't need an escort or a security team, I will be fine."

"Jade, that wasn't a choice. The only choice I am giving you is which one is going with you. Going alone is not an option, so choose one of them or me."

"You are not coming, that would be a mistake. Any of them is fine. When is my meeting?"

"In an hour, Avery will join you."

"Fine. I'm going to have some breakfast now." I snap, walking out of the room.

Kane who had been standing in the doorway through our conversation, follows me into the kitchen.

"I made some pancakes, would you like some?" He asks sweetly, sensing I'm upset.

"Yes, please."

He starts portioning pancakes onto a plate, grabbing syrup from the fridge, he asks,

"Are you okay?"

"What is he doing? Is all of this really necessary?"

"He's just looking out for you, last night got him worked up. Just go with it for now, until we figure out who is doing this. You're welcome, by the way."

"What for?"

"I knew how much you felt you needed to talk to Trevor, so I convince Colton to let you. Trust me, he would like to put a stop to it at all costs, but he knows you will go whether he likes it or not."

"Well, then thank you. Why is he so worried about me meeting with him? He's in jail, there will be guards, and Frank."

"Actually, Trevor agreed to meet with you as long as the only people in the room are you and him. Not Frank, or any guards."

"I see, oh well, I have to talk to him."

Colton walks into with Avery beside him.

"You caught her up on everything?" He asks Kane.

"Someone had to let her know what's going on."

"Are you still going through with this meeting?" He asks me.

"Yes, I am. I have agreed to have Avery accompany me, so please calm down."

"I have to go talk care of some things at work. Avery, do not let her out of your sight." He commands.

With that he turns and leaves the room. My appetite is now gone and my stomach curls. I clear my plate and place it in the dishwasher.

"Are you ready?" I ask Avery.
