"Good news for both of you. The doctor has cleared you both to go home today." The nurse says.
I look over at Jax, who is now sitting up in bed. He's smiling,
"That's means my tests came back good?"
"Yes sir, everything is in order, for both of you."
"When can we leave?" I ask.
"The paperwork should be finished in the next half hour, so you're free to go in about an hour. Just remember to take it easy, and to follow the doctor's instructions."
"Thanks."
She leaves, I turn back to Jax.
"We get to go home!"
"Well, you do. My house has blood all over it, I don't want to go there. I'll call Lydia, see if I can stay with her."
"You can come home with me until we get your house cleaned up."
"Look we have been in this hospital for three days now that you've been awake and we haven't talked about what happened."
"Yes, we have. What are you talking about?"
"I mean about what happened to us. Ever since you woke up you've been trying to take care of me."
"Jax, you're my brother I want to help you get better."
"Jade, what happened it wasn't your fault. Trevor was going to do what he wanted no matter what. I want you to stop beating yourself up about this."
"I just...If it wasn't for me this would never have happened to you. You heard what he said, that you are my only weakness."
"Stop it! If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else. It could have been Morgan or Mom, I'm glad it was me at least I'm strong enough to put up a fight."
"You're right. I guess out of everyone you are the best man for the job." I laugh.
Laughing doesn't hurt as bad as it did, I can still feel a slight pain but it's not near as painful any more. My nose is starting to heal now it's just a nice yellowish bruise in the middle of my face. The bullet graze on my head is healing, the scab is a lot smaller and I found I can easily cover it with my hair. It's good to hear the test's they took of Jax came back good. The doctor has been worried about internal bleeding. I'm glad that Jax and I were put in the same room, even though that was Colton's doing. It's been nice to have someone to talk to when they won't let visitors in, but I am so ready to get out of here.
Jax is on the phone,
"Yeah, about half an hour. Bring me some normal clothes, please. See you soon."
"Who was that?" I ask when he hangs up.
"Lydia, she is coming to get me."
"Cool, I'll call Colton."
"If you both could sign a few papers, you will be all set to go when your ride arrives." A nurse says stepping in the room.
She hands each of us a packet of discharge papers. We both skim over them signing and initialing where we need to, and she gives us copies.
"You are free to go when someone arrives to drive you." She leaves the room.
"Jax, we are free." I laugh.
"About time! I'm going to grab a shower while I wait for Lydia."
I reach for the phone to call Colton.
"Baby, is everything okay?"
"Yes, everything is fine. I was just calling to see if you could take me home?"
"Really, they're letting you go?"
"Yup, all the paperwork is done. I just need a ride."
"I'll be there in fifteen minutes."
"Thank you."
"Anything for you, baby. See you soon."
I slowly make my way around the room gathering up any of my things. It takes a bit, as I have to keep taking breaks due to my ribs. Once everything is in the dufflebag Colton brought for me I try to move it on to the bed and stumble with the weight of it. Apparently my ribs aren't yet up to it. Before I can brace for my fall, I'm caught by someone. Turning around, I expect to see Colton, however I see Lydia instead.
'You should be more carfeul, Jade. After what you went through, we don't want you dying over something dumb.' She laughs.
Not impressed with her joke, I give her a small smile as I right myself. Before I have to think of a response to her, Jax comes out of the bathroom.
"Hey Honey, you got here quick.' He says.
I brush past him into the bathroom, as he goes to greet his girlfriend. I'm washing my face when there's a knock on the door.
'It's open' I call.
Colton peeks in and enters when he sees it's me.
'You shouldn't be moving around too much.'
'I'm not aloud to go to the bathroom?' I ask him in disbelief.
'No, no. That's not what I meant. Nevermind. How are you feeling?'
'Still a little sore, but better than before. Have you talked to Frank?'
'Yes, we have to go down to the station for more questioning tomorrow afternoon.'
'Wonderful...In the meantime I'd like to go home and pretend none of that is happening tomorrow.'
Colton walks over and grabs the dufflebag before taking my hand and leading me out the room.
'I think I can manage that.' He smiles.
At home Colton draws me a warm bath and Iet's me relax in the tub while he goes to talk to the security team. On the way home we decided that now that Trevor isn't a threat anymore that we don't need an entire team. We decided to keep Avery and Thompson on full time, but the other three men shouldn't be needed. I'm glad he included me on his decision. I like Thompson and Avery. Over time they've become friends and I like having them around, whether there is a threat or not. I'm sad that anyone has to lose their jobs, but Colton assured me that men in their field are never out of work long. I asked him to give them a decent severance for the short notice, which he agreed to. I hate to see anyone lose their jobs over something beyond their control, so I hope that helps somewhat.
