"Alora, Ethan, Heath. I just got the news. Is he okay?"
Simon, Heath's father came to a stop right in front of where we were sitting, nodding to all of us like any other agent doing his greeting.
Heath looked away, his jaw clenched.
Let's just leave it to, they aren't on the best father-son relationship from a very long time.
Other than that, Simon had been my father's best friend and his confidant.
Both the families have been friends even before the birth of our fathers or even grandfathers, for that matter. These families had been partners in crimes since a long time.
"We don't know. He's still in the surgery."
The words felt bitter in my own mouth. I wasn't used to my brother being the one in hospital. It was usually me who Travon took here, for treating of even a papercut.
Simon nodded, understandment passing through his bright blue eyes just like his son's, as he took a seat beside Ethan.
"How long have you been here?"
"Alora and I came around 4 hours ago. Heath just arrived." Ethan answered.
Simon nodded.
"How did he inform all of you about the situation?"
Simon was a skilled leader, a pro in handling these kind of situations.
He took care of a lot of things for us when Travon was still too young after our parents' death.
If he was asking the most stupid question right now, he knew what he was doing, that was for sure.
"Travon called me when I was in class, asking me there was an emergency, nothing more and I left and went home the first thing." I said, explaining when he gestured for me to answer.
Simon nodded, turning next to Ethan, waiting for him to tell his side.
"Heath called and explained the situation, saying Travon was being sent to UCLA Hospital. I got here as fast as I could. When I did, Alora had already arrived with the ambulance." Ethan shrugged, crossing his arms.
A hostile look glinted in Simon's eyes just as he turned to the last person for the answer, his own son.
"And Heath?"
"Someone from the agency caught a signal of an alarm going off in their house with no response from security there. Not long after, I got a text from Travon asking for backup at house. Anyone could put the two and two together after that."
"Then, why didn't you put that two and two together earlier and reach their house faster?" Simon argued. The disappointment clear in his eyes.
Heath's hands clenched into fists on his side, his eyes looking away to stop himself from bursting on his father, right then there.
"I went as fast as I could." He muttered, his jaw clenched.
"Yea. But that wasn't fast enough, now. Was it?" Simon shot back.
Simon might be a great leader but he pushed his son way too much.
I get the need for his eldest son to be the perfect man when he grows up but on expense of that, he hurts Heath.
"Anyway. Since, Heath failed to prevent all this when he had a chance, we've got a lot to take care of now."
"Simon, go easy on the kid. He's already handled the police and immediate matters that needed to be taken care of." Ethan intervened.
