when she kisses him
her hazel eyes are wide open,
because she needed to remember
the reason for the collision of her lips against his.
her eyes are open
because she needs to see:
the slope of his pink nose ridden with emotion,
the curve of his happiness painted in his smile,
the innocence in the flutter of his eyelashes,
because when she closes her eyes there is nothing but vast emptiness.
when she closes her eyes,
she does not see:
the words he speaks,
the melodies he sings,
or even his morning routine;
she sees nothing.
but when he closes his eyes,
when he kisses her,
he sees her everything.
and that's why,
when she kisses him,
with her hazel eyes open
he is so very aware
that to her,
he is
just another pretty face.
