Edelweiss: The Mountain Flower

I thought we were over the hill that was her
But she called your name again
And you dropped everything:
Including me-

This whole time,
I climbed with you
Looking down
At this silver rocky bump
In our path;
Looking down
At my raw and bruised hands,
From holding on too tightly
To a rope that just wanted me to let go;
Looking down
At how far
We've come-

But you've dropped me now;
And for the first time since our journey began,
I'm forced to
Stare up
As I fall.
I stare up
To where we could've gone,
Stare up
To the the edelweiss flowers
That signaled something bigger
Than I could understand
Stare up
To see
She was no small hill
And I was holding onto a ledge
There was still a mountain left
Of her
To be climbed
(Over?).

We were no where close to her end.
You were never getting over her.
